I wouldn't do it right now, the weather sucks here. And the hotels depend on your budget.....The Grand is a nice place and so is The Amstel Hotel but both are expensive. A lot of webmasters that visit Amsterdam stay in the Swissotel, it's "cheap" and right in the centre.

John Lennon stayed at the Amstel its a nice place overrated imho as in too pricey. If you wanna be in the centre check the Radisson SAS Hotel, 70 cheaper a night and nice hotel too. Small rooms everywhere btw unless you get a suite or so...

I wouldn't stay in a hotel at all. I would rent a short-term apartment overlooking a canal, probably in the Jordaan area. Hotels suck, and amsterdam has some companies that specialize in renting furnished apartments by the day.

Apartments kick ass over hotel rooms.

You can rent house boats on the canals too.

Check this out: http://www.amsterdamluxuryapartments.nl/photos.html

? 175 per night for three to six nights and for ? 1.100 per week

A hotel room that size would cost like ?350/night

Fuck hotel rooms, they're small and boring. Live like a local
