How do I get my boss to send me to Internext?

How do I get my boss to send me to Internext? I'm new to the business and I really want to go to the Internext meeting in Jan. Normally, I'd ask who I have to blow to go but I'm affraid of the answer I might get. Any suggestions?

Ask yourself a more important question.... what are you going for? If you dont have a means to go, what would you even go for?

To me, internext is a great show but not for a new webmaster. You would meet a lot more people one to one and get involved a lot more at a smaller show. Expecially with this year gearing up to be a zoo. Thats just my opinion. Internext is insane and lots of people are really busy, I guess it just depends how agressive/outgoing you are, but I would much rather be a new webmaster at a convention like Pheonix.

And to answer the thread, why don't you figure out what you would go for and put together a proposal like any normal person would.

I think Internext is imperative for new webmasters looking to make contacts in the industry.

Absolutely nothing replaces a face to face meeting that you can refer back to when you're talking to someone on icq for years to come.

A lot of people are hesitant to do business with people they haven't met, and you're probably going to meet more people at Internext than at any other industry show.

The only caveat is that you must make the initial effort to meet these people. If you're shy or at all unsure about walking up to a group of people and introducing yourself, you may be best served to wait a while until people know you better through the boards.

What am I going for? I've heard the stories around here. Who wouldn't want to go with their company picking up the tab? Oh...and I'd like to help promote our company and products of course.

As a suggestion...

If in fact you do attend do not make it about the partying. The classic mistake made by many new in the industry is that the cart is put before the horse.

Take the time to walk the floor... look around at who are potential alliances, who is the competition, what are they doing differently. LEARN the business before you jump right into "Hi im the new guy at Xobile and we have never met but I want to use my company name to make you think I am entitled to a pass to your party tonight"

This leaves you with very little credibility and you will be met with a quick scan orf what is behind you as the person is looking who may be close they can talk with to get out of the conversation.

If you have business on the table ask for a contact number or business card write down what was discussed and follow up promptly after the show.

For the first venture in the industry I suggest running under the radar and use the time to familiar yourself with who does what, who is doing what for who, and figure out a strategy of how you can provide a benefit for the company.

Thanks for the advice. I did go for the straight up approach. Didn't get a yes or a no. We'll see.
