American Express outsources their call center to India?

Not that I have a problem with that but wondering if it was true. When I call I always get a person with an accent from India. With a name like American Express though it's kind of funny to me.

Everyone is outsourcing there, why would American Express be any different?

Everyone outsources their call centers to India, or haven't you heard?
What's really funny is when they ask for my address and I say "you know, it's at [insert well-known street intersection]" and you can hear the silence. "No sir, I don't know it ..."

Even companies like Dell, the world's largest computer systems company has now outsourced most of their Call center business here in the Philippines. Dell will be hiring around 700 technical support and customer service agents to staff the new Dell Call Center which will begin operations in February 2006. With the number of skilled English-speaking Filipinos, I am not surprised why the Philippines was chosen by Dell for their call center needs.

Dell selected the Philippines for the customer contact center expansion because of its high-quality work force with strong language and communication skills. The Philippines has approximately 100 contact centers, more than 200 colleges and universities and more than 650,000 college students. Dell, the world's largest computer systems company and America's Most Admired company, has consistently led its industry in phone-based personal computer technical support services for customers. It has expanded its customer services capabilities from hardware to include software and applications services such as assistance with virus and spyware issues. Dell also has expanded its customer support channels to include online, such as the Dell Community Forum, e-mail and chat in order to give customers multiple, convenient ways to access technical support.

Dell was outsourcing its call center business to a number of 3rd party companies here in Manila for years now to accommodate their growing business needs, this was told by a number close friends of mine who handled DELL accounts. In fact, they were saying the reason why Dell like to invest here long term is due to complaints they (Dell) get from US clients about the accents of Indian Tech Supports which is somehow annoying to their customers.

My office location is the hub of most all call center companies here in the PH, outsourcing is a boom here right now and there's definitely no stopping it. The area has been my workplace for more than 5 yrs now and I can trace my roots back early 2000 when I worked as an IT consultant for a Big Call Center firm, among the pioneers here in the PH. Well, too bad I decided to shift to a new career after 1 1/2 yrs since it was not really that motivating, my passion drove me elsewhere.

There is a story that McDonalds was even experimenting in texas to outsource the drive through order when you speak to the microphone it is actually to someone in india, but what they were doing is accent training the Indians to make sure when they outsource this, you think you are talking to somone local.

That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Its not as if these 3rd world countries are tealing businesses from the US, among the richest firms in the US like Microsoft has started outsourcing some of their works in China. Now, can you say you are more clever than Bill Gates?
