Windows XP Pro and Outlook Express 6

I bought a new Dell Inspiron 8100 Notebook computer with Windows XP Pro and for some reason Outlook Express 6 on it won't download my email! I configured both of my email accounts exactly like I did with 98 and they won't check email! They keep saying that there's "No new email" even though there is new email because I then try it on my other machine and it downloads fine.

I can send email and browse newsgroups fine though.

Anyone have any suggestions for other email clients besides Outlook?

use netscape 6.1 they might have a 6.2.
Mail program is great and doesn't get a 10th of the e-mail viruses that plague outlook.

Hi Candid,

Here's one possible reason why it doesn't work.

Open outlook, goto... tools, accounts, then select your mail account, go in General ---> Did you check the box "Include this account when receiving or synchronizing"?

$10 it's unchecked right now ;)

In tools, under options, hit the mail setup tab, and be sure the check mark beside the send and recieve button is checked off.

Just use netscape for mail and the problem is solved for pete sakes.
Netscape mail is better, it can make a sound when new messages arrive,
it shows the latest news events when you check your mail & it doesn't get all the worms and shit that outlook gets.

If your hellbent on using Outlook then
call the store you bought the laptop and have some tech wiz talk you through the setup, if you don't understand how to configure your mail. Any computer store I've bought a computer from, was willing to talk me through little problems even if they didn't have to.

Or call your local ISP tech support and say your e-mail is working. Someone there will make sure everything is configured correct.

Try some Ritlabs releases, they are professionals in email software and you wont get beaten by outlook exploits...

Well I'm no computer newbie. This SHOULD work, I configured it exactly like I did 5.5.

I'm going to try calling tech support of my ISP and Dell, but I seriously doubt they'll help since those guys just read scripts.

Also for the people that say XP sucks, it must be your slow underpowered machines cause other than this email problem it's kicking ass.
