I don't think they're doing it to drop the hammer, but they are doing it. I was told so by local law enforcement more than 3 years ago when they came to my door to ask me questions. They still call once in awhile and ask questions. I simply answer them.

The trouble is they have never bothered to try to infiltrate the real enemies of the United States (al Qaida, Halliburton, etc.). But hey, its easier to spy on your fellow Americans since you don't need to learn any new languages, take any real risks, or extended trips away from the comforts of home, etc.
