Is it possible to extract audio from WMV movie?

I am trying to convert a .wmv movie to .mpg in TMPGEnc. When I browse to the video it wont automatically fill in the audio box so when I convert it the movie it has no audio.

I need a program that can extract audio from a wmv movie.

yes, I just converted a wmv to mpg1 using tmpgenc, then opened the converted mpg1 in virtualdub and saved the audio track as a wav. No filters were required.
Edit, when I loaded the wmv into tmpgenc, I noticed it filled in the audio file for me. Maybe the wmv you are using has errors?

After converting the wmv to mpeg there is no audio on the file. So it would be pointless to open it in virtualdub to extract the audio because there is none.

Thanks anyways

I have used Easy Video Splitter with good results.

Damn.. I sure wish I knew what the problem is.

Does this program just split or can it encode also?

The wmv files are higher quality than what i need for galleries so i need to reduce the quality to maximuze bandwidth.

It just splits and joins. Re-encode with Windows media encoder at your lower quality and the split using the splitter.

I think my issue might be with ffdshow. I was unable to even open .wmv files in TMPEnc untill I installed that plugin.

When i checked properties on your wmv video, it reports back as Windows Media Audio 9 - so I don't know what the problem could be. I have had issues with not having tha AC3 audio codec (google for it - it is a free d/l) lately so I downloaded it and all of my audio issues have disappeared.

I encoded it with TMPGenc Plus 2.5
When I loaded the video, the audio popped right in for me.

your download link:
http://www.spiketechnical.com/convert/0721_01_sm.mpg
74mb I know the filesize is large, but at least it is in mpg format and you can degrade it as you need.

good luck with your big project
I'm heading out for the night

There is definately something fucked with these wmv files.. I open it in Virtualdub 1.3c and its almost like the file is locked. I can't scroll thru the scene to highlight the begning and end to capture the audio.
