Windows XP freezing up(question)

One of the servers I run for a client has windows xp Pro on it, its a security system, it will boot up perfectly fine but freezes before launching the startup program, if you let it sit for a few minutes then reboot it loads fine, but when you restart it locks up as soon as it gets in windows, what would cause this?

If I were you I'd open msconfig and disable everything in the startup tab that wasn't essential to Windows starting properly. Then you'd find out if it was a software(Windows) or hardware(HDD) problem.

btw - you are local to me, we should hook up sometime.

you should have a bunch of stuff disabled in servicies. plus you should goto cmd, and type netstat -a to see the active connections, check to see no ports are open that shouldnt be. if their is any weird activity try telneting to a port if it connects they their is something installed there.
