Anyone know car audio well? (question)

ey everyone, First let me introduce myself. My name is Dave, and I'm a novice with car audio, though I have a genuine interest to learn. A couple days ago, while driving on a highway (no bumps) my subwoofer just stopped working. I've been trying to figure out why, but I've come up with nothing.

It happened once before when I parked at a friend's house, but when I came back and sort of jiggled the cables it worked. Like I said, I'm a novice, so I have no idea what to look for. All the inputs I have seen I have made sure are plugged in tightly. I'm assuming it's not getting power but I have no idea what to look for. Like I said, every plug I have seen I have made sure is plugged in.

I currently have a nice Alpine deck ($400), Alpine speakers ($800), Alpine amp (not sure what the specs are but it was $150-$200 I believe) and the subs are 12" Sony Xplods powered by an Xplod amp. The sub and amp were on sale, so dummy me I went for it. My speakers, deck and amp are working fine, but the subs are not. I've had it for around 2-3 months so I doubt they just died. I did have it "professionally" installed at BestBuy and it worked like a charm up until 2 days ago.

I would really, really appreciate any advice on what to look for specifically or anything. I don't believe I still have my reciept around, so I would have to pay Best Buy quite a bit to even look at it. Thanks a lot. - Dave

It's me, and no I didn't.
Do you mean the car fuses or do they have their own fuses?

Someone else said it might be a burnt out wire or something on the subs themseleves, but I want to be sure before I go and rip the subs from the box.

Under the hood near the battery look for a fuse or a fuse block that is inline with the main power wire to the amps. Also check at the amp(s) for other fuses. Some amps have more than one so be thurough.

edit - Sorry, i thought you were psoting for another guy named Dave...lol

check the fuse of the amp that powers the sub.. could also be that the amp was a melon which is why it was on sale.

I have two, one powering the speakers and one powering the subs.

I know the one powering the speakers is on because they are louder and the speaker amp has a light on.

This is the sub amp I'm using. Looks like there are two there, and I think there are fuses throughout the system because I noticed these small plastic cases on the ground near the wiring.

Do you have any extra speakers sitting aournd you can use to test the output of the amps? Assuming you really do have no power issues (after you vefiry all your fuses and conntections are OK) you could use a spare/old speaker to test the outputs (make sure you test the Hi and Low outputs on both amps).

Or, if the wires are close for your main speakers and your subs, switch your other amp to your subs and see if the subs then work.
