Graphic designers: from scratch or template? - GoFuckYourself.com

I'm kinda' curious whether graphic designers here on GFY create their original logos/graphics and whatnot from scratch - rather than making use of existing templates and snippets of graphics from elsewhere thrown together, etc.

I see quite a few talented and creative artists - but often I see logos and graphic designs making use of stock backgrounds and pieces of graphics that I've seen used elsewhere.

Not to say using royalty-free graphics to enhance your own design is such a bad thing...I'm just curious of the various design methods.

I keep all my old files and on occasion mix and match elements from them into new designs.

If I'm doing work for someone else, I usually start from scratch and build on that with my library of elements.

So I guess I do both, depending on the situation and requirements.
