Elaborate please.
Does any form of electronic security comply such as just an audible alarm, or are you talking only about the type that gets the police, fire, and so on called?

What about motion lights, or just alarm stickers?

Why do you need a security alarm? Get a dog if you are worried, you not only have security but a companion as well.

Dogs do not always make good security in real life.

And who fires that when you are not home?
What if you are home and there is a silent invasion?

If someone wants to kill you or steal from you, a security alarm is not going to stop them. A dog atleast poses physical harm, unlike an electronic box with flashing lights and buttons.

You cant figure out fire, low temp, water in the basement yourself?

CO2, that does pose a hazard and a simple $10 investment can remove any worry of that.

Break in was mentioned prior.

I will step forward and say I have the following.
Firearm in the house.
Alarm stickers on all windows and on fence.
Closed circuit video surveillance of the outdoor areas; more due to the fact that I have two other rentals on same property lot than security.
Audible alarm setup at all points of entry.
Motion sensor lights.

I do not however have any security company system such as brinks and the like. They take to damn long to respond to anything.

If I am home I have a firearm. I am not concerned with when I am home though.

Now if someone wants to kill me and an audible alarm has not caused them to flee I seriously doubt a dog would be much more of an obsticle.
Then also yes a security alarm will usually prevent the vast majority of instances where people would steal from you.

My dog which barks like crazy if a fly lands on the door would be up in no time. My gun and a warning shot would be next. That's my alarm.

Fire - When asleep or not home can be an issue and monitoring for that is a good idea. Same with low temp, if it gets to cold and nobody is home and your pipes burst well it may be a good idea if someone was notified.

I am sure it also helps a great deal with the home insurance. I know what I do does.

I do, it is called

Glock 40 cal, Glock 9MM, Smith & Wesson 38 Special, 2 Berettas 32 cal (use these for CCW), shot gun, and several others. (All of which are hollow point). You break into my house; you will hope the police save your ass. Why let him live so some SOB attorney can get him off. Then the basted will probably sue me because my house was too tempting and somehow it is my fault.

Full alarm motion sensors, fire alarm all tied in. Glass breakage sensors etc etc. Loaded gunsafe, dog, Security cameras on front and back of house and monitoring kids playroom. Plans to build a small safe room in the spring too. We live in a very safe area, but I like to be prepared. ;)

OK, if someone wants to kill YOU, I think they have figured out your house has an alarm. And if they want to kill YOU and only YOU, they will have planned to kill you when you are home, a time when people dont usually arm their home.

Security alarms will prevent the vast majority of instances where people would steal from you? Where are you getting your information from, the alarm companies? Take a look at fancy cars with audible alarms, you think that will stop a person who wants to steal it from stealing it?

Fire, well a simple $5 fire alarm can solve that.

If you have a faulty heater, then why would you leave your home for a long period of time in the cold season? Get the thing fixed or dont leave.

If your insurance dramatically changes from an alarm system, then it's probably because you live in a bad neighbourhood.

In the instance you gave above about getting killed. If they wanted it that bad and knew that much I am sure they would prepare for a damn dog. Basically I would be fucked no matter what.

Car alarms are a much different scenario than house alarms. The vast majority of burglaries are opportunistic in nature. Most burglars will pass on a house for an easier target if they know that house has an alarm.

Are you really that dense?

A 5$ alarm will not get a firetruck to your home so it solves very little aside from waking you up if your asleep or in another room.

Heaters do not need to be showing any signs of being faulty to fail. Sometimes shit just breaks.

Home owners insurance always changes when you have alarm systems. Does not matter about the neighborhood at all. Also living in a bad neighborhood does not mean more break ins, hell a burglar would typically want to break into a place where he knows the odds say there are items worth stealing; i.e. a richer neighborhood.

Regarding the killing, Im just saying that an alarm system isn't that much help.

Most alarms aren't noticeable, the company usually throws a sticker on a window/lawn to notify passers by that the house has an alarm. So then just throw a sticker on your window or put a sign on your lawn to notify those oppotunistic burglars that your house may not be an easy target.

We have one on the truck after we got robbed a while ago. However, we no longer leave anything worth more than 10 bucks in the truck or my car.

Living accross the street from a sherriff (which we did at the time) didn't stop the thieves at all and they stole everything they could get their hands on

It's best to just leave your vehicle doors unlocked. I'd rather have someone steal my change and pack of gum then to have to pay a $500 deductable to replace my broken door window, change, and pack of gum.

Right they hire alot of crack addicts, and homeless people to man the phones. For that matter cops dont make money either. Maybe we better just all take dogs along with us. *rolls eyes* Also Maybe you missed the fact that I have a stocked gun safe too. The alarm is mainly just to get the cops here to clean up the bloody mess that is left. Oh and incase im not at home to attract my neighbors, two of which are cops.

What good will cops do? Robbers know not to stay for the 15-20 minutes it takes cops to arrive. And usually the alarm service company calls the home owner to be sure that they have to call the local police department. If you're a robber and there is a call right after you brake in you know to get what you can and leave asap.

So to conclude this, alarm services are a waste of money.

What the fuck is an alarm gonna do? I had them in Canada, completely fucking useless.

Now I've got a 24/7 guard with a pump shotgun and I feel much more secure.

I don't ... I don't find no use in that really as there is somebody here 99 % of the time, and there isn't many robbers in this city.

why would you fire a warning shot? so they can return fire?

dont ever fire a warning shot. shoot to kill, and keep shooting till the magazine is empty. do not aim for the head or a leg, aim for center mass (the torso)

You dont want to wound someone so they can come back for revenge later

If someone is kicking your door in or coming thru a window, they are not there for a social visit. Send the fucker to his funeral.

No alarm here most people I know don't have one here in Portugal.

We even let our doors unlocked! Oh no, sorry, I was thinking about Canada.

Full security alarm system on both buildings linked to private monitoring service.
Security lighting all around the property.
CCTV covering the main courtyard area.
Security entry system on the main gate.
Fire and smoke alarms on both buildings.
CO alarm on both buildings.
And we have a German Shephard dog.

And despite all of that we live in a virtually zero crime area.
