Do you spook easily?

C'mon fess up.

I will.

As recently as my 20's, when I still lived in Queens and drove a gold 1981 RX-7, I remember pulling into my driveway at like 2AM, after a night of sensless speeding on the Grand Central Parkway, and having to run from my car to the house because I was scared of the dark. Even now, intellectual powers notwithstanding, I still get the impulse to freak out for what may be in the dark. I hate this, because I know nothing is there. But what scares me is what my mind will fabricate. I feel so self-betrayed.

Not at all.

I do a lot of photography in old abandoned buildings (factories, etc.), often at night...and alone. Over the past few years I've gone in to some damn creepy places that would raise the hairs on most people, but it just doesn't affect me.

No macho bravado stuff - just a preoccupation with gettin' good photos and checkin' out what there is to see, to think about gettin' spooked.

-- This is what I have come to describe as the "going native" strategy. Fuck it. You see a bunch of bogey men doing some weird shit around a campfire in the middle of the night. Just walk right up and say:

WAZUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUP --

That's precisely it

As cliche as it sounds, I've always thought the best defense is a good offense.

Half the time the other dude is shittin' his pants more than the load you've put in yours, lol.

I am not so afraid of the dark anymore. I have conditioned myself that it is all in the mind.
