do you own a server ?
if you do are you able to control it from you HD (add, delete files) ? do you see it on ' my computer ' or ' my network place ' ?

i dont make sense
 i am trying to host files on my own server. i was just wondering do you have to sent the files to the server or can you just copy/paste them on your 'server' HD located on ' my computer ' or wherever ?

Windows would be something like network file sharing, windows to unix / linux would involve samba mounts. Most likely, you'll want to use FTP / SFTP & SSH, unless you're in your data center and are working directly on your server.

If it is windows 2003, and you are using remote desktop, you can change the settings in your sign on box. Where you put your IP in to log onto the server there is an options button. Click it and goto local resources tab. Under local resources check disk drives. This will then show your local drives as drives under my computer on your remote desktop. Not sure how I understood you, but I did get it.
