Gmail spam filter sux big time

Since I re-transfered my e-mails from hotmail to gmail, I've been getting 1,000s of spam per day. When my e-mails was being transferred to hotmail, I was getting a few dozen daily spam in my inbox, the rest would go straight into the junk mail without me doing squat.

Hotmail has their shit together when it come to filtering spam, and I'm not impress with Gmail spam filter...

have you tried customizing it or do you expect it to be perfect out of the box?

I hit on the "report spam" all the time but keep getting the same type of spam over and over. With Hotmail, a only few would pass thru into my inbox...

ah, ok. if you notice a trend (like getting a bunch of credit offers) you can set up a custom filter to catch them. try to use words that are mainly only used in spam (like credit, line, etc - for example) you can usually taylor it to the type of spam you are receiving using keywords and it should catch most of them.

I also only get maybe 1-2 spams max a day that get through my gmail and well they do not come off as random, more like phising emails.

Same here.

I do not use Gmail a lot, but I daily get about 4-5 spam mails but they all get filtered. I hardly remember any spam email made it to the inbox.

Based on my experience, I think Gmail's spam filter is better than that of hotmail and yahoo.

In my personal experiece, it was exactly the opposite. I used to get slammed with spam in my old hotmail account's inbox, but I only get about 3-5 per week that slip through to my inbox with gmail.

This thread is 2 years old and Gmail has obviously improved their spam filters because I get a ton of email and very little spam.

My experience differs:

I've been using gmail since 2004.

I've never adjusted anything on my spam settings or filters.

My gmail spam filter intercepts about 30 spam messages a day.

Since 2004, I can only recall catching one viable email that was diverted to my spam folder.

Since 2004, I can count on one hand the number of spam messages that have successfully made it into my inbox.
