94 LLC? 94 was one of the worst BDX years, even 97 which was far from spectacular, was a better year.
re: flat - BDX goes into a dumb stage fast, withing 2-3 years and stays flat often for no less than 8, with few exceptions like...2003.
I have a nice LLC vertical:
96, 2000, '03 and 96 will be ready in about 5 years. Don't commit infanticide with good BDX, it's a REAL crime.

Speaking of cute, I'm tempted to post a really nice pic of 12clicks, but I think he'd jump through my screen and strangle me if I did ;)

This is why I've moved away from bordeaux. I don't want to have to guess when its closed or guess how many hours I'll have to decant it to get it to open. I know 94 isn't a great year but a wine of that quality should give you *something*
I've got some interesting bordeaux sitting in the cellar, 86 margaux, 20yr verticle of mouton, etc. I just burn thru so much wine, I can't spend all my allowence on french waiting 15 years to crack one.

I can't remember if the cause of that picture was the result of too much wine or too many martinis.

oh, it was martinis.

to each it's own....I have Mouton vertical going from 1983 and I skip the so-so years. As for guessing...posting for 2 years on wine boards was a great educational expereince.

here is my official TN for 2001 Rudd, pass it to Mojo
;)

  • 2001 Rudd Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Grown Oakville - USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville (6/21/2006)
Technically speaking that was a flawless wine - balanced, concentrated, all done well but...it was lacking dimensions. Fruit, toasted oak...and that was it. The wine hasn't touched the soul. I am very prejudice against toasted oak and this probably shows in the impression of the wine. But if you like that sort of thing and not aversed to toasted oak - you'll enjoy this one, it's ready and I just don't see it going anywhere from here. Lacks certain acidity, which was another "nisht-nisht". (92 pts.)

don't get too hung up on Rudd, its my everyday drinker, not my all time favorite.
I'm thinking I'd reserve that title for 97 Pride reserve cab followed closely by 95 shafer hillside sellect. I've got some of the shafer in the cellar and its all I can do to lay off it.

I had one bottle and glad I don't have any more. I like 'em like I like women...with more fireworks, flair and versatility.

hey, here's a wine from left field that will knock your socks off if you can find it. it runs about 60 bucks.
gibson shiraz 2002. open it, let it decant for exactly 1 hour. then drink it completely in an hour.
The nose out of the bottle will be nothing. after decanting, it will smell just like a jar of caramel to the point of almost being overpowering. The taste is fantastic. caramel but not overpowering. After about an hour and a half, it gives up the ghost and returns to its just out of the bottle nothingness.
I've never tasted a wine with such a dramatic transformation.

me? stop talking about wine??? Sorry, no can do, unless you would rather talk fashions and shirts
;)

It is not overpriced if you know what to look for...1996 provides-
great vintage (left bank only, avoid right bank)
age
price 1/2-1/3 compared to 2003 and 2005

You can't miss and they are available in NYC area, I buy them there.

I don't like shiraz anymore...sign of an age. The older you become, the more you apreciate the finess. Good impression, BTW, I liked your description.

I actually have all the first growths in 96 and a good bit of calon segur in 96, sadly the calon is all drunk except for a case of mags but yeah, 96 is alright but if your talking about a good cali from 96, its drinking great.

no, this is different. its worth trying only because its so different for a shiraz. you don;t have the sickening sweetness a lot of the shiraz in that price range have.

and this is your problem Sleazy...you don't ask again. Your last guest, Ben from Holland, was chickening out the big time from the questions posted and...I didn't hear YOU asking again and tough questions.

C'mon, admit that the reason you don't ask the tough questions is because you just don't know WHAT to ask!

Kman,
make this thread fun and tell everybody the story of your last visit of USA with your "friend" and how he went thru the passport control. If you don't do it,
I will in the separate thread so everybody can get a good laugh.

I don't know where anyone got the idea that Serge and I were pissing.

if we were, no one would mistake it for anything else.

people love to see blood poured while we prefer wine.

again, burgundy is too hit or miss. some are wonderful, most are not.

now an Henri Bonneau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Réserve des Célestins is a wonderful burgundy tasting wine that I love.
hard to come by but very nice.

From the master, Heinlein on cats and pigs:

"While the rest of the human race are descended from monkeys, redheads derive from cats."

?Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.?

?Never try to teach a pig to sing; it wastes your time and it annoys the pig.?

they are only hit and miss if you don't have a firm grip on your favorite producers.. I don't call Burg gambling anymore, 'cuz I do.

Hey Guys I found the perfect wine for you to try

'Cat's pee' sweet smell of success for NZealand wine - A wine with a whiff of "cat's pee on a gooseberry bush" has transformed Marlborough's Wairau Valley from scruffy farming country into New Zealand's wine capital in just three decades.

The sauvignon blanc grape has been the making of New Zealand's wine industry and especially of the largest winemaking area Marlborough, which lies at the northeast tip of the country's South Island.

The pungent wine divides drinkers and critics but its unique racy character has won a legion of fans in Britain and more recently the United States.

For the record, the "cat's pee on a gooseberry bush" description -- usually attributed to British wine critic Oz Clarke -- was a compliment.
