Hitler was a genius. Let's face facts, if it weren't for the fact that he put way too much emphasis on his personal vendetta against the Jews, we'd all be speaking German right now. The truth is, he had way too much hatred in his heart, and he was one evil motherfucker. He was blinded by that, and in the end it ruined his country, and his reputation. And as much as everyone on this thread can talk about Hitler being a homo, or being a killer; if you lived in Germany in the early 30's and had to go through the aftermath of the shit kicking the German's took in WWI, you'd all jump on the Nazi bandwagon too. Seriously, in peace time (after conquering Europe) I think he possibly would of went down as one of the best leaders of all time. People have this crazy thought that he intended to gas everyone, enslave everyone but Germans, but it is so far from the truth it is crazy. Hitler honestly saw himself and the Nazi's as protectors of Europe, and they recruited from all across Europe (60% of Waffen SS was made up Foreign troops including British, French, etc). I think certainly as you said he was wrong on many fronts, but I also see him as a very intelligent rationalist, and if you look for example at the 1936 Olympics and the quite peaceful occupation of France (not to all of course, but for the majority) I think Hitler showed the potential to be quite a decent peacetime leader, much better and less ruthless on a whole than Stalin for instance. I think, as you stated, he was quite ruthless in a number of ways, shaped as you also said, no doubt by his and Germany's experiences in WWI, and also the necessity for Germany to be such in order to win the war.

Have a read of this book, quite an interesting pre-war perspective from a non-German living in Germany at the time.

First off, blaming the Jews for the problems in the middle east at the moment is completely ridiculous. Do you think the Middle East will suddenly become this peaceful wonderland if Israel didn't exist? No it wouldn't. Countries like Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc, would just find another excuse to hate the western world. Actually they don't even need an excuse to hate the western world, it's a doctrine in their Koran. Want quotes? As for Hitler, he was an evil man, that came along with the right message for a country that was torn apart and fucked over by the rest of Europe after WWI.
