Headed to my first Rodeo!

I'm out in the midwest at one of the offices and we are all going to a Rodeo/Carnival. Never been to a full out Rodeo in my life. Anyone else ever been to one?

I went to one when I was young...Pretty cool, but I didn't like how they treated the animals, so I never went back.

Enjoy and stay safe. It's been months since I had my last ride.

I honestly did not know what to expect but it was pretty cool. There were some filler shows that didn't do much for me, but the bull riding was insane! The world champion bull rider was there and of coarse, won again. I liked the bare-back and sattle bucking, the trailer races were pretty boring, but the greasy food and the bull riding was kick ass. Once I unpack (I'm back in FL now) I will upload some crazy pics and small vid clips. I always thought of that area of the midwest would be boring, and it is to an extent, but the area is simply GORGEOUS will all of the mountains.... and for 300,000 you can buy a 3 story 5 bedroom home (about 3600-5000 sq feet) as opposed to FL, where that will buy you a double wide trailer. I'm seriously thinking about moving out there and investing in a house. I've been waiting to, but nothing felt right here in FL (I'm not from here originally-- I grew up on a ranch). I rarely leave the house so I am more serious about buying out there now than I ever have been before. The views are amazing.... Mountains, a clear sky, clean air and very nice locals.

I'll need to buy a beater truck for the winters because my Z won't make it in 2 feet of snow, but still......... I can't wait to get out there and start house hunting!

Do you know how they get the horses and bulls to kick?

If you look closely, you can see what is called a flank strap. This is a strap put around the lower abdomen that is pulled tight when the horse or bull leaves the chute. This is a very sensitive area on a horse's body and it has no alternative but to buck as a reflex action. On occasions the animals are so stressed out with this action against them that they rear up and collapse before leaving the chute.

As soon as the flank strap is taken off, the animals stop bucking

In the case of the bulls it puts pressure on the uretha.

Quite unnecessary animal cruelty....

Thanks for the info, but I didn't say I was a Rodeo addict, I was taken there by a group of business contacts. I actually left the stands when they were roping the the babies. I almost got sick so I went off the benches and took some pics elsewhere. I think the main reason some people go (or maybe me) is to see the antics.

You want to start talking cruel, what about all the people that adopt pets, beat the shit out of them and give them back up (I happened to have just adopted an abused dog). The world isn't perfect, I went to a Rodeo and enjoyed most of it, so sue me. I grew up around horses and I understand what you are saying, however you are making it seem worse than it is. I have vids of those animals spazzing out after the bare back competition with nothing on other than the typical bare back gear for riding.

As for the "flank strap", the bulls were still kicking like a bitch after it fell off or was taken off by the 2 cowyboys that were in the arena for the dismounts, etc. The 6 of us had seats where you could see everything going on in the stalls and once they were released. (Excuse my ignorance with part of this as this was my first rodeo, but I do know a lot about horses, I grew up with them.) Ok, it was 1 and 1/2 decades ago, but I still remember.

Shifting off topic, the cutest thing was the "mutt run". Little kids around the age of 5-9 ride sheep and this little girl looked like a professional horse rider ona SHEEP. lol (She is going to be a cowgirl when she grows up) She won a trophy bigger than her.... it was adorable. The sheep kissed her after the ride. hehe They had clowns and other events, but overall, I enjoyed all but the roping.
