Member complaint about SPAM?

So I got this email today:

But there is another problem: since my registration to your service I ´ve been spammed with innummerable mails to my adress [REMOVED] I reserved this e-mail-Adress explicit for using with your service (no other usage!), so you must be the sender of this masses of unwanted messages or you must have given my e-mail adress away.

Please DELETE my adress imediatly from any mailing lists an care for using it ONLY to contact me in connection to my membership to your service. NOT for sendig promotional or spam mails!!!
[/email]

Problem is, we haven't sent any email to any members other than answer support requests. We have also not provided our email list to any other parties. I understand this guy's logic that if he created this email and used it only once with my program then I must be sending the mail, but I am not.

Any ideas how to calm him?

If he's no longer a member, why bother trying to calm him down? His logic is pretty sound, and if you're not the one sending the emails, I don't see what else you can do.

He is still a member.

I can assure you I am not sending the emails, and unless somebody hacked my nats admin, which requires you to be on my IP address to access, what other possibilities are there for why his alleged new email is getting spammed?

humm - I have done that too - I use [email protected] and get spams - I had one company I had put a memorial site up for a dead freinds family - I started to get spams - they denied it too - maybe you should take a closer look at your staff

Can't be. The support staff is me and one of my business partners so far. I'm sure he isn't spamming out members, and I know for sure I am not.

Let's start with the assumption that we are NOT spamming this guy, and somehow it's originating elsewhere.

I myself have some 10+ email addresses, and some of them get spam even though I've never typed them in for use anywhere really.

never will you get him out of that mindset.

if its a freee host email he ould be the victim of those fuckers that run those programs on yahoo and hotmail and so forth if its something tha can be decyphered or alpha emailed that could be it.

have him forward you all the mails. otherwise, sounds like someone got into your nats db.

Yeah I asked for him to send me the mail with the header intact. As for the nats db, we protect that by allowing only my ips to access the server for anything other than http. No FTP, no Nats admin, no SHL, etc etc. Be very difficult to get the database under those conditions unless nats itself has a security hole, which I am not suggesting is true.
