Thinking about changing the look of my own handwriting
Don't get me wrong, I have pretty good handwriting and others have never had any problems reading what I have written. However, I have been watching a lot of historic programs lately (History channel, Discovery, National Geographic, etc.) and have been noticing the writing styles in documents that are a few hundred years old. Their writings in letters, documents, etc. have a distinct look to them. Very elegant and majestic looking compared to the handwriting of today. Granted, they took a LOT more time writing their documents (using ink and quills) than we do today, but the overall styles and shapes differs considerably from modern examples; almost to the point of making our (present-day) handwriting look childish or even ignorant by comparison.
