Not forgetting slave labor, human trafficking, child abuse. (Neither poverty or child abuse is an exclusive to "foreign countries") The purpose? To draw attention to real problems instead of inane debates over abortion, gay marriage blah and educate the fatass's to release how the thinass's live.

I have a buddy that moved down there...bought a nice chunk of land for $15k and built his own bamboo house on the property. He lives there now with his wife and two kids, and loves life

If you seriously are thinking of that - move in asap and grab a patch, - it's still increasing at 50%/annually and safe to say that will continue for the next 4-5 years. A no-brainer

Construction costs vary, using local materials and going for the "rustic look" - around $25-35/sq ft. For a home constructed to North American standards - anywhere between $55-$65/sq ft. Construction generally is an utter pain in the ass and helpful if you have good contacts in govt and local council.
