Stupid networking question - GoFuckYourself.com

What I am trying to do is password protect the wireless part of my network. I am having problems figuring out how to do it.

This is the deal:

The broadband modem is connected to a Netgear 4 port (rp614) router. A Linksys 2 port VOIP modem (wrtp54g) is connected into the Netgear router.

I run wired. The manchild runs his alienware wired. The munchkin runs a dell laptop wireless. (wires are ran for him to use it wired if he needs to)

I assume that the web interface of the Linksys is where I would password protect the wireless portion of the setup. However, when I put my default gateway into the browser address bar, it takes me to the netgear router's page.

What am I missing? I know it's probably obvious and stupid, but I can't see how to do what I need to do.

Just set up wep on the wireless router.

If i'm not wrong the default ip for this router is 192.168.15.1
Not sure, but must be something like that
Then you go to the Wireless part and choose WEP as your encryption and put the key you want to use

It is explained in the booklet or on the CD .

You need to login your router from a wired pc. It has an ip.

User / pass will show up ... The instructions will tell you what they are ( maybe admin/admin ).

You must change those to your own passwords for safety reasons.
Then you go to the WEP , activate and select a key to encrypt. That key will be used in the laptop to connect .

You could also " not publish " your network for more security, or at least change the name so that hackers don't know the actual brand/model of the router...

Or ..... call a friend!

Not really man, you dont actually need a wired PC to do that, you can login from wireless too. If you're connected to it.

I'm not able to get to the router to set up the WEP stuff. When I try to use 192.168.15.1, or any of the other numbers I am finding suggested on the web, it goes to a page not found.

If I go to run/cmd/ipconfig, then use the numbers showing as my default gateway, it takes me to the netgear router.

simple, walk up to the linksys, plug your laptop into it directly :| Or from any computer connected to the linksys

that or go through the settings on the netgear. The netgear has assigned an ip to the linksys. find out what it is and connect to it via webrowser

No, it isn't. But the Linksys is. The two routers thingy is what is messing me up in terms of knowing what to do, I think.

If your not familair with WEP also you can disable all the other IPs except for 1 & assign that IP by mac (laptops mac) then only that mac could connect.

Linksys should be http://192.168.1.100 or http://192.168.1.1
