Anyone from Austin Texas

If so, what do you like or dislike about living there? Besides the heat. Was thinking of relocating ...

Friend of mine invests in real estate there. Says the people are less stressed and thus alot more friendly than out here in California. You can definetely get more for your money out there than compared to California but I prefer a milder climate.

I just moved from Southern Cal to Austin in April.

FUCKING LOVE IT HERE, will never move back to California....

First, the heat is not bad, in fact, I think it was hotter this year in Southern Cal, difference is that there is a tiny bit of humidity, and you have the heat an extra month...but, there is so much to do here, you dont care.

Housing here is ridiculously cheap.
rush hour lasts for, get this.. about an hour, even less.
rush hour means you can only go 45
downtown is awesome, great night life
great culture
the lakes, so much fun
live music everywhere
you can go out to eat and you dont have to wait for a table usually
great concerts, musical groups love coming here
very low air pollution

There is so much more, the one hurdle I really had to get over in my decision to move here was TEXAS. But I have learned that Austin is really not Texas. It's an oasis in the middle of Texas.

656,562 The population of Austin proper.

http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/citymgr/basicfac.htm

It is VERY hot .. rarely rains and has traffic the rivals Dallas.

And remember ... it's TEXAS -

You can be arrested for having more than 6 sex toys in your car.

Seeing how Austin is the most liberal city in Texas, I highly doubt someone would get intoruble for having more then 6 sex toys in their car, just because a law is on the books doesnt mean its regularly enforced.

The difference in traffic between Austin and Dallas is night and day, have you even been to either city? A 2 way rush hour trip in Austin is shorter then a 1 way in Dallas

Yes, I've driven in both, I live in TEXAS. I'm just spoiled, and think all traffic in the larger TEXAS cities suck. They just grew too fast.

It is a great city for nitelife and young folk and you can still afford to buy a house.

I am from Austin but moved from there to S. California just one year ago. I love it here and I still love to visit my family and friends.

The weather - humid and it will get pretty cold and maybe ice over in the winter every 3-5 years, lol

The people/culture - can't beat it with a stick

The scene - the best

Housing/cost of living - cheap as dirt ... you'll live like royalty ... and then wish you could get to be "Texas BIG rich" one day

Price to pay for breaking the law - like everything in Texas, BIG. Don't ever, EVER drink and drive and avoid any run ins with the Williamson County PD, LOL!
