The shittiest part of all of this is that US doctors are the enablers/dealers. People assume that doctors are only doing what is right.

Never heard of Paxil withdrawal problems. I took it for 4 yrs in highschool and stopped cold turkey after I graduated. No problems what so ever.

Somebody please tell me why the doctors and the FDA should take all responsibility for this "problem"? We, the people, go to doctors with "problems", and instead of solving these problems the long and hard way we beg for a magic little pill that makes everything go away. The doctors are doing their job giving you what you want. If it were the reverse, and the doctor refused to give you a pill that you knew would make you temporarily feel better, you would be just as pissed.

I absolutely hate the pill based society we have become. Everybody has a "condition" that suddenly needs pills and medication to solve instead of roughing it out and getting to the core of the problem. Kids are fed ritalin like candy so they "behave properly", when in essence what's happening is we're drugging our kids so they act a certain way.

Every now and then I'll meet somebody that starts talking about an illness they have and the medication they take to correct that illness. Then they ask me how many pills and medications I take for my condition. None. Zero. I use eyedrops, thats it. They're always baffled. The mind is very powerful, more people need to realize this. The mind can cure many of your ailments. People think I'm crazy when I say that, but I stand behind it 100%.

I have a friend who has epilepsy and rather than getting on a drug that controls the seizures with few side effects he takes more drugs to offset them. Aderol and dang it, I can't remember the name of the depression drug. It's the really common one and I'm drawing a total blank.

I agree that not everyone needs a "happy pill" to get through the day, but I know several people whose quality of life is much higher on anti-depressants and are thankful for them no matter the side effects. Not true, when you go see a doctor, you don't want to take decisions for him. You're just looking for help. There are many options to solve the anxiety problem, permanently. Pills will only give a relief and not solve it.

A cognitive behavior therapy is the best approach. A responsible doctor will not give you pills without knowing more about the problem. They are too fast to prescribe those pills and the patients get addicted to it, making the companies billions a year.

I'd be surprised if one doctor out of 10 will give you a prescription to see a psychologist before giving you antidepressants when sometimes you don't even need that shit.

Paxil was never meant to be used for long term.

Unfortunately, unqualified doctors were prescribing it and clients were thinking, wow, this is great. i don't feel ____ insert whatever ailment....

Only recently are the long term effects of Paxil and Prozac coming to light...

We, the people, go to doctors with "problems", and instead of solving these problems the long and hard way we beg for a magic little pill that makes everything go away. The doctors are doing their job giving you what you want. If it were the reverse, and the doctor refused to give you a pill that you knew would make you temporarily feel better, you would be just as pissed. I absolutely hate the pill based society we have become. Everybody has a "condition" that suddenly needs pills and medication to solve instead of roughing it out and getting to the core of the problem. Kids are fed ritalin like candy so they "behave properly", when in essence what's happening is we're drugging our kids so they act a certain way. Every now and then I'll meet somebody that starts talking about an illness they have and the medication they take to correct that illness. Then they ask me how many pills and medications I take for my condition. None. Zero. I use eyedrops, thats it. They're always baffled. The mind is very powerful, more people need to realize this. The mind can cure many of your ailments. MetaMan I AM WEB 2.0 Industry Role: Join Date: Jan 2003 Posts: 28,682	smoke weed once and a while and work out, wtf is with people and all their anxiety and stress problems, everyone has it, you are supposed to find a possitive way to deal with it not drop a little pill that will hopefully solve your problem. people are just as to blame as the doctors sometimes, there is no such thing as a quick fix imo, it is an entire lifestyle change to reduce stress and be happy, people are just to lazy to do it. and i am also not trying to offend anyone and i know people have different views then me. good luck on your recovery i do not wish this kind of crap on anyone. i also agree with you that doctors are just like drug dealers, people should know this by now and do their own research before going along with any kind of doctors orders.
