anyone knows the exact stats for plane crashes?

last time I heard it was like the chance for a plane crash is like 1:8 Million, but I dont know how accurate that was

anyway, in that case the chance to die in a plane crash in a trip involving 8 flights would be already around 1: 1,000,000

I know this is an old thread, but I've decided to take flying lessons - I need to take a "test" one first as I have horrible air/sea/car sickness problems and I'm really hoping I don't run into that

Anyone else fly? I know KC does and a few others. I seem to run into a lot of people who STARTED taking flying lessons but never got a license.

In the beginning I loved it, now it's just boring and annoying. The price of a train ticket to London is higher than a plane ticket so I usually take the plane, but the hassle is less and the time it takes (including wait and transfer times at the airport) is equal. I'm getting rather concerned about the environmental impact of the 120+ flights I've done in the past few years.

Flying 30,000 feet in a metal tube at 800mph to me just doesn?t seem all that SAFE. You get in a car accident, you got a chance?plane crash? Not so much.

I haven't flown for years. The last time I got on a plane is when my gramma had an operation and thought she was dying and told me she wanted me to see me that very night, PERIOD.

I got on the plane and was terrified for my life every second. Surprised I didn't run screaming thru the aisles.

do not like flyin really, but due to some reasons i'd better choose the plane then non-stop driving for quite a long time.

im hooked on that show Mayday that plays on discovery (in canada at least..not sure about the us). After seing all their episodes, it seems like it takes quite a lot before a plane crashes. Ive seen portions of planes ripped off, or a plane gliding, no engines/gas, for 20 minutes and land safely (the air transat flight). Even when a plane was hit in the wing with a missile, they were able to control it just with the thrust so they could line it up with the runway and land it. Its pretty amazing what the pilots can pull off under all that pressure with little going for them.
