Getting a puppy was probably the healthiest thing I have done in years.

Seriously, getting this dog has done a lot for me. We go for walks every day, so I am walking at least an hour daily, and getting a couple miles in.

I find myself walking places I used to drive to, just so we can get the bonding and exercise time in.

My days of running were eliminated when I got in a major bike wreck at the end of 1986.

I got him one of those leashes that extend and retract in length so he can lag behind then run to catch up and go past me. He seems to dig it.

Well, having to keep one eye on him to make sure he doesn't pee in the house or listening for him chewing on something he shouldn't be is kind of annoying, but he is a quick learner. I just need to gain some trust probably.

Sour apple spray? Do I coat the furniture in it?

And I am not sure, it sounds tasty, and this guy is worse than a kid. Everything we pass on our walks he has to put in his mouth.

give it time, he'll grow out of it, annoying at first, but its a stage of his life as a puppy, once he grows out, you'll never wanna let him go, because there will be nothing annoying about him

Our lab is a pain in the ass alot of the times, but he is getting alot better during walks and does shake, high five, sit down, lay down etc. Now if he just wouldn't chase cars or run across the street when people are outside haha.

Buddy is very good on the leash. I think in another couple of weeks I should be able to take him for walks sans leash just using voice commands.

Nice Dog! We just bought a Chocolate Lab, and get to take him home in 2 weeks! I can't wait, I love having a dog around the house, especially for the exercise! We named him Diesel.

If you haven't already got one for your dog, get it a Kong. They're the best damned toys ever made for dogs. The red ones are a little softer and perfect for a puppy. They're damn near indestructable and when they drop them they bounce odd, perfect for chasing.

No offense to the owners of either breed but think twice.

Boxers are VERY hyper and require lots of exercise, great dogs but I've seen to many buy them because they look cool.

Pit Bulls, I know the owner makes the dog. Your future landlords, insurance companies and neighbors will not give a shit. They will treat you and your dog like a time-bomb.

Don't flame me, I'm an animal lover. That is the reason for the post. Full-grown Boxers and Pit Bulls do NOT get adopted from shelters.

Oh that puppy has got to be a HUGE babe magnet at the beaches around you. I am so happy you are walking around with the baby. You two seem very happy together.

That makes me want to get a dog. I can't get the dog I want yet, a German Sheppard, so I either have to wait or get a little Yorkie named Satine. With my bad foot and her being so small, the walks wouldn't be that long. Great idea! I think I will find a way for Santa to leave Satine under my Christmas Tree this year.

I am not having kids so I could handle having a couple dogs in my life time. I will have a Yorkie, A German Sheppard and then I have always wanted to go to the pound and get a full grown dog that needs a second chance. I hear they are always the best dogs. Three dogs and two cats = one kid. haha Not financially of course, just time wise and minus the aging a kid will do to the face. Three dogs and two cats would make me feel good, one kid will stress me the hell out and I will age faster. LOL

I hope to meet that baby in LA. You better bring her around. I would love to snuggle and kiss that baby. She can stay in my room. hehe

Buddy is a he, and yes, the women love petting him almost as much as he likes to get petted.

Hell, he had picked up on 4 TSA girls at LAX by the time I landed.

If you really want good learning techniques, read Cesar Milan.
http://dogpsychologycenter.com/tips/index.php

He's the "Dog Whisperer", and using his techniques my two month old pups walk perfectly on the leash, sit on command, come when they're called, they're housetrained and very very well behaved.. Most people who meet them think they are months older, they can't believe their two months. believe me, saves a lot of the stress of worrying about what the dog is doing behind your back too

That dog looks exactly like my one pup. Both pups are black lab/springer spaniel crosses, but one looks totally lab, the other looks like a border collie and is mistaken for one all the time. He's a cutie!

Dogs rock.

They teach you that the cliche' comments you have heard your whole life are correct.

"Want loyalty? Get a dog"
"Man's best friend"
"Want unconditional love? Get a dog"

The best way to teach a dog what to chew and not chew is when he is chewing something he shouldnt say no and give him something he can chew. Gets the point across and you dont have to hit him.

I can see people LOVE their dogs in here. Both pics seem to be on the couch, just like mine, he's sprawled out on there right now in front of the fire. Looks SO comfy I hate to disturb the little(85lbs) bastard

Mine is not on the couch, he came up to me in my recliner and put his paws on my leg.

The only way he is on the couch is if I am laying on it and I let him lay on me while I rub his belly.

He loves that. It is one of the things we have in common. I also like getting fawned over by pretty girls, just like him.
