Ive been playing "Stronghold Crusader"

It is awesome. Castles, Archers-volleys, Knights, horsemen. blahb blah

Well made and is a good game.

Ive heard of age of empires and civilization, heard theyre good, but never played them

Black and White is similar and different.

You play the hand of god in a sense. Run a civilization. get them to praise you and keep you as thier diety. I havent played it much, but I remember it was intruiging

I've been playing Age of Empires since it came out in 1999 and the newest Age of Empires III which I still play to this day.

If you want a simpler / more pure game of strategy get Settlers of Catan, either the board game or the computer version.
