PayPal Now Accepting Adult Merchandise!?!?!? Hell Has Frozen Over!

So on my board last week a very well known company that sells hard goods (dvds, sextoys, etc.), announced that they had negotiations with PayPal and that they are now officially approved to accept PayPal on their consumer sites:

The toystore/dvd site is: www.adameve.com

Apparently PayPal will now accept adult merchandise sites on a "case by case" basis (hard goods only, dvds toys etc.), but as of now still has no plans to accept membership or content sites.

Has anyone else heard this? Has anyone else on here been "approved"?

They specifically said that they had open negotiations with PayPal, and got approval to use them for adult hard goods.

I'd really really really doubt that this company would try to "fly under the radar".

Seems like they legitimately are processing PayPal now.

I agree that the reason this happened is probably because of volume. But you have to wonder, is this a first step for them? I'd imagine we'll soon see other volume adult merchandisers on board soon as well.

Is it only a matter of time now until the floodgates open?

I can see that hard goods even adult are not considered high risk by regular cc companies.

They aren't because they have more proof when people try to chargeback. Deliveries, signatures, etc help verify the consumer did not get screwed over.

There's a difference between content and physical goods. With physical goods, it's easier to prove shipping/delivery and harder to successfully chargeback.

hmmm every country has a government. So that really isn't an issue.

Do you think it only has to do with being a big retailer?

Paypal stopped processing all Adult transactions....period!

They use too...now they are starting too, again. Sure it is with the big boys but now it is a slippery slope, you can't just say no to one and yes to another there are legal implications.

btw what is a sure thing?

The only thing that has changed in the last few months is the political climate in america.

Also remeber what is acceptable practise in one country isn't in another. Ebay/Paypal is now an international Business and maybe they are opening their minds and their eyes ;)

I sense that PayPal will have to change their policy if they made an exception for Adam and Eve, since it would appear to be an unfair business practice otherwise.

I thought this was great news until I called their support line. I'm told that no, in fact it is still against their acceptable use policy. On inquiring why adameve can sell using PayPal and not me I only got a dumb "well they shouldn't be". After waiting on hold for another 30 minutes I got hung up on. So I submitted a further inquiry online. If I find anything I'll post it here.

I don't think for one second we will be using Paypal for anything other than selling that old dvd player or pair of shoes on Ebay.

I had my account frozen and lost £3500 for over 6 months before they released the money. And I had to get a solicitor involved to get that back.

Wouldn't touch them with a 50 foot barge pole.

No, it wasn't bound to happen. Check their TOS, they still want nothing to do with adult, period. If you think otherwise, try doing some adult-related transactions and I guarantee you your account will be frozen in no time.

People, don't be sucked in by this "news", or you'll be back at GFY crying about paypal very soon.

Remember you're speaking to some schmoe in a call center who is only capable of reading from Page 43 of the manual. Ditto a response you get from their online people.

This is something that was obviously done by going higher up the food chain and dealing with people that actually have brains, rather than robotic customer service people who are constitutionally incapable of thinking for themselves.

I suspect they are essentially "beta testing" with a few larger companies and if they see that fraud is as low as it actually is for adult physical product, they probably *will* allow adult physical product again... because they want the money. Electronically delivered products and membership websites are an entirely different deal, they probably won't fuck with that because they don't want to mess with high risk registration.

I'd stay away regardless. I just had a PP account frozen because I sold too much stuff Only one person hadn't received their PS3, the rest did; all the tracking numbers clearly displayd that. Yet PayPal wants me to 'prove' I had them lmao. Mother fuckers!

Suppose when you consider Adam & Eve has been around.. 35(?) plus years and with a solid bricks and mortar business track record and employing 350-400 ish staff, - there is little reason why any net transactor would not deal with them.

The scenario is kinda different to a few guys/girls operating websites with little or no solid physical base or management experience - the risk element is obviously higher for eg PayPal under these circumstances. (Plus, it's a lot more work mangaging 1000's of smaller merchants who may often have a biz career on the next of a couple of years)

aaah yes ;-) they even sent a rep to australia to chat to a few companies ... he came to a bbq at my home, but when paypal pulled the plug I didn't receive so much as an email warning me ... found out on a board.

but even with all that said ... I'd still use them to process adult products because it is the single best converting billing method, and you can withdraw your money daily.

Just take the risk that you are prepared to accept the consequences of!

I doubt it's processing 'adult' as one big lump of filth.

My thought here is the word, 'tangibles'.... i.e. toys, DVD, video, etc.

The rules for tangibles are different that for memberships, clips, or untangibles as defined by VISA/M.C.
