Depends on your price range but IMHO, Canon is the way to go.
But WTF do I know? Not like I take pics for a living or anything silly like that.  |

FYI, you can get lithium batteries for about the same price as an 8 pack of AA's on eBay.

i have a canon PowerShot A620 and i love it. it's not tiny but it's pretty small and when i took it to the l.a. auto show, it did great in pretty much any light. has full manual controls but auto is good stuff, too. also has an optical viewfinder but i find myself using the flip and twist lcd. great battery life and since i use rechargeables, life is good
