philosophy thread, is it really worth living?

I was just wondering, why is it that we know of our existance? Do dogs know that they exist, that they are a being in this world?

I believe in spirits, we are a spirit. You and I are nothing but a "spirit", a spirit doesn't have a face it's just there, it's like an energy, just like fire.

If we die, what happens? We wouldn't know because if we do go into a afterlife (which I just like to call an alternative-new life) we wouldn't know. For all we know, you were Abraham Lincoln a few hundered years ago, after you died you lived as an ant, after that you lived on a panet 50000 light years away as god knows what form of being, maybe we lived a million lives. The only certain answer to this is that we lived an infinite amount of lives, therefore there wouldn't be a "beginning". Okay so we established that we lived an infinite amount of lives, maybe we even lived every life there is? That could be. So basically every living thing that has even been around (which is an infinite amount of lives) you and I have lived as. Infitnite amount of times we have been born and we have died, we have no recollection of this because all the memories are stored on a brain like system and we can't recall it. Therefore since we have died so many times, it's not really worth living this current life, maybe if we kill ourselves right now we will be reborn on some planet a million light years away with a great fortune.
But wait, we wouldn't know that it is a "better fortune", we kinda get used to whatever has been given to us, for example, if we were born in solviet russia and we worked as communists: we would think that it's just normal and try to make the best of it, right? Just like this current life. Okay so I just established that killing yourself for a better fortune wouldn't be a good idea, because we would never know if it is a good fortune or not.
Also I established that immortality is not a thing one wants, it's a bad idea, if we are stuck in a life for an infinite amount of time then it's torture. It's the same thing over and over again. Gosh it would be great if our spirits had some kind of memory, so we could look at the life forms we were before.
How does existance work? Is there such a thing, I don't think we know of our own existance, I mean come on it's just a bunch of cells and brain nerves that process information much like cpu's use boolean logic, therefore everything has a set path. Me writing this thread, it was bound to happen. It's a chain of events. So basically whatever actions we take it was bound to happen, I don't believe in true randomness. We can't control the past, future or present. Time isn't a third dimension, it's just a vibration of atoms, and if we slow down the vibration we make the set object go "in the future". If we take all the atoms in the universe and we make the atoms vibrate inversely except us, we will technically go backwards in time. That'd be cool, but impossible to do. We can only go forward in time by freezing ourselves which will slow down our atoms in our bodies which means we will age way slower and therefore travel in time. Outside of the cyrogenical window we would see everything happen super fast but to the person in the cyrogenical unit it would all go normal speed. Kinda weird. Why would we want to travel in time anyhow, if you don't have a lot of money and aren't rich when you arrive "in the future" you will be the lowest of the totem pole, come on, a person living in the year 1000 to get transfered to our time would not function in our society, how would a person in the 2000 funcion in year 3000? Badly, by then education and society would be so complex that the person would be cast out of everything eventually dieing off. So right now, right here, at this time is where you want to be, you need to work and do whatever it takes to be #1, do it right now, start working on your business, work on your company. You already have one? It's doing great? Start another one, try to be number one. If you do this, then you can say, yes - I am Leonardo Da Vinici. I was him, he was my spirit. I was him, because during my life I strived to be #1, all of his accomplishments were my accomplishments, I did it and I will do it again.

Only with a positive attitude like that can this world (world meaning all the universes) coexists, we can then - once we have intelligent people, we can interact with other planets. We can do space travel, it will happen. We were born now in a time where that isn't possible, but soon we will conquer/live on different planets, we will be able to network the entire world. Communication will be easy, it will defineately not be this lifetime, but right now we are superior beings, we are the catalyst to make it happen. In a trillion years once it's all done and we have reached the edges of space, we will then have reached the height. Right now we are limited to land boundaryies on this planet. Forward time a million years, and our boundaries will be the universes. What will happen then, will resources the run out? If we do conquer all the panets in the world - what else is there to do?

Ah great, that sucks. Now why do we want to live? We will eventually get control of everything, there will be nothing left. That sucks, can we/will we murder our own existance? or own spirit?

That's what I want answered, will there be a point where we are so complex and advanced and there is nothing else to do? So much that we will not want to murder our body (which isn't really anything), but we will want to murder our existance?

Actually I am on absolutely nothing, it's just things I've been thinking of ever since I was 12 years old. This thread is probably very uncomprehensive, because it was written purely by train of thought. I just want to know what other people have to say about it, hopefully one will actually read it.

what i wonder about is the soul searching this man has done on GFY, when it probably be more appropriate finding someone with a desire to have that type of conversation and debate each others static views on life, no matter how self-styled "open minded" they are

Now, I'd bet on that fight

Dude, everyone questions their existence and its purpose. They've been doing it for thousands of years in all sorts of ways. There is no answer.

It helps to realize this because you might think you are alone in your questioning. You are not. In fact the opposite is true.

The dog probably doesn't have enough mental capacity for "questions". But he is content with existing and finds joy- in dog terms- in existing. Every animal has this joy in just being. We do too.

Many great minds have wasted themselves endlessly pondering the meaning of life, when the answer is quite simple... THERE IS NO GREATER MEANING. All we have is the moment, this moment we live in right now. What happens when we die? Who knows, there is absolutely no way we can establish what happens after death, or to explain what the purpose of our existenence is. To know is to hold knowledge, knowledge being a justified true belief. Belief itself does not qualify as knowing, so why ponder a question to which their is no legitimate answer? Life is only what we can know life to be through personal experience and the experience of others. The simplest answer is to youer question is that living IS the meaning of life, and to waste away endless hours pondering something to which there is no answer, is not living. You are fundamentally wasting away the thing you seek to find the most, simply by seeking it. Strange, no?

I think man's greatest downfall is the belief that we are something special, and that there is perhaps greater meaning to our existence. It takes away so much focus. The only thing that is important in your life is you. Focus on the now, focus on accomplishment. Go out in to the wolrd with only one goal, to conquer. Grow stronger, richer, smarter, spread the seed, & pass on your genes. The only way to make the most of your life and to find meaning in your existenence is to accel in everything, and to not concern yourself with anything or anyone else. let no thing or no person stand in your way. Your life will only last so long, so make the most of the short period you have. Then when that time comes that your life comes to an end, no one including yourself, is going to be able to say your life was a waste of any sort. Keeping this mindframe can only lead to success in whatever you do, you have the will to power, so use it.

Not sur eif that answers or repsonds in any way to what you wer ethinking, it was also just an outpour of random thoughts.

The short answer is no. The long answer is yes. The medium answer is somewhere in-between. The big answer is actually surprisingly little and the little answer is surprisingly big. The black answer is white and the animal answer is seven.
