HD video cam format

I'm about to buy an HD video cam for supplying content....the Canon uses mini dv tapes. The Sony uses mini dvd's.....which are easier to rip? I am a still photographer and have little experience with video, but it's time to step it up. Any insight appreciated!

Well, you can get a Canon HV10 on Ebay for around $950.00 plus shipping, new....or at local retailers for a couple hundred more. They use mini dv tapes, and there's a Sony for about $100.00 more that uses mini dvd's....I will be selling the raw video media for now, so I want to go with what is easier to process.

sony do not all use mini dvds. the sony hdr hc3 uses mini dv tapes

phasic - if your not in a rush you can find these CHEAP in their chinese versions. these are barebones for 500-700 with little to no accessories and 3-4 week delivery time. the american version is 850-1500 depending on the accessory kit included.

i got one off of ebay NIB for $875 and bought an accessory kit seperately also off ebay for ~150 with a battery, car charger, 5 tapes, various filters, lenses, cleaning kit, cheap tripod, light, case, 1gb memory stick and usb reader too.

boxer.. i havent used the mini dvd version... i think the only reason to go with one that records to dvd is the ease of capturing for the end client. he can copy the content off any dvd drive as opposed to needing an hd mini dv camera for the capturing. downfall is i think the mini dvs only hold 30 mins of video (1.4gb).

Thanks very much! It sounds like for my intended purpose, I may be better off with mini dvd format....even if I start editing it myself.....thanks for the reply!
