:2cents Vista is a most secure system ever!? Hmm...

Determina found five vulnerabilities, including one error in the software code underlying the company's new Internet Explorer 7 browser.

BTW, I've tested Mac OS X 10.4.8 on my PC and could say it works just fine - don't see any reason to buy a native Mac for it

Vista will be better in the long run... but in the short run, there will be issues (there always is with this much code). 5 vunerabilities out of all that code is a pretty low number, really.

SP1? Can you say SP1?

Using pirated/cracked software doesn't constitute a "reason"?

I didn't say "using" because I meant just trying it. Course I'll buy an official copy of Mac OS X if I'll decide to use it as an alternative work system on my PC.

You're always good for a laugh. I'd remove the link you posted to another resource board, though, it's against the GFY rules.

I'm the kind of person that pretty much lives on my computer, so having a new OS come out is gonna be hard to resist, so I'm sure I'll be buying it right away.

It's always nice having a change of scenery

In this case I'm a totally opposite one, because I would never change/upgrade something that works fine already. I was working as a senior system software developer for DOS and Win32 platforms within a rather long time, so I stick with the following coder's saying: "don't touch it if it works well already"

Here is some interesting info regarding Vista (some of you will be shocked for sure):
Quote:
Windows Vista includes an extensive reworking of core OS elements in order to
provide content protection for so-called "premium content", typically HD data
from Blu-Ray and HD-DVD sources. Providing this protection incurs
considerable costs in terms of system performance, system stability, technical
support overhead, and hardware and software cost. These issues affect not
only users of Vista but the entire PC industry, since the effects of the
protection measures extend to cover all hardware and software that will ever
come into contact with Vista, even if it's not used directly with Vista (for
example hardware in a Macintosh computer or on a Linux server). This document
analyses the cost involved in Vista's content protection, and the collateral
damage that this incurs throughout the computer industry.
Find the details here: http://www.cs.auckland.ac.nz/~pgut00...vista_cost.txt

I'm not sure is everything mentioned there is truth but it smells not good...

P.S. Babe, in some of your posts above you are telling to someone that I'm not worth the time, however you are constantly bumping my threads and posing various stupid comments. So do you have lots of free time to spend it on me or it's just a demonstration of your perverted love to me?

I just gotta new lappy 3 months ago.

Fuck vista/microsoft

I hear some of their own products
dont work on it.

It's best to wait a while imho so other
product developers can adapt their
software/s to it.

Else you might have something you
use regularly now that want work
until there is an update.

Seems no one has read "A Cost Analysis of Windows Vista Content Protection"

There is written that Vista will decrease the overall quality of licensed media content in order to "protect it better", as well as it will do many other troublesome things...

Please read it!

Would use it at work if I could.. but unfortunately, not gonna happen

When its all said and done, most linux installers are much easier to walk through than a typical windows install, providing you dont encounter problems. Any problems you may encounter are usually a one google search away from an answer. GNOME and KDE have become very usable, and work in a way familiar to most computer users.. Its definately a viable choice for the work desktop, depending on what you need from your machine.

About the only thing that makes it hard to use in this industry in particular is the widespread use of .wmv, although with programs like mplayer and VLC, most wmv files work fine.

But what about software? What's whit Photoshop, Macromedia(Adobe) Flash, Dreamwaver etc? Do you think they will be ported for Linux someday? The alternative soft is not a solution IMHO. For example Gimp will never has at least a half of Photoshop's usability.

Well, Like I said it depends on what you plan to use your machine for.. I wouldnt expect most serious designers to switch, and thats not what I do.

You can get by with the GIMP for more things than most would give it credit for, but still could never see a Pro designer switching to it after spending years learning photoshop. So yea.. if your a designer, dont use linux :P. If your a programmer/web-developer Linux makes more sense.

I'm a designer/programmer/web-developer. So which system should I use? Actually I have all the necessary tools on XP so I don't see any reason to move.

Hehe, use what gets the job done for you, I dont hold it against you, or try to be one of those holier than thou zealots on a pedestal. It works for me, but then again, I used to work for a major Linux company, so admittedly I have more Linux experience than I do with any other OS;)

I'm not advocating that anyone and everyone should switch platforms.. was just making myself counted as one of those who use Linux as their primary platform when when you asked if there was anyone who actually used it ;) But with all the negative hype about Vista, its nice to be able to sit back and be detached from it all. Will be interesting to see the actual product once it matures and all the dust settles.

I've been running vista on my desktop for a while now... works great except for when I encode MPEG videos on that machine they won't play on alot of others. I'm not sure why, I figure it must be a codec problem.
