Can a computer become faster with a new monitor?

I got this new monitor for christmas, a 19" lcd widescreen, and well, my computer seems like twice as fast

the old monitor I had was a OLD OLD OLD 19" CRT

I swear my machine seems like it is flying now, I can open apps in 2 seconds, as before it was taking 5-6 seconds

The most noticeable difference would be resolution and refresh rate. But it wouldn't affect speed. Probably psychological.

Monitor's age has nothing to do with speed.

You probably just bumped the turbo button when you plugged in the new one. Its in the back right near the plug. Lot of people are unaware of that. Its an option you can use. Just depends on preference I guess. The cpu will run out of processing fluid faster if you have turbo engaged, so you need to weigh your options out. Either faster performance, or longer life. Personally I have always opted for the turbo mode, and when I order my cpus I order additional processing fluid.

ROFL

now you know someone is going to be reading this in a year from now and get down on their hands and knees to check the back of their box for the damn turbo button, and when they can't find it, they are going to bump this thread

Even though your monitors are both 19", I read on CNET (or somewhere) that LCDs process data faster and can hold more pixels than CRTs, since it's a newer technology.

Also, recycled processing fluid cartridges are cheaper than factory cartridges, so stock up on them if you can find them at a local store that carries them.

no way. a computer can be faster only with a CRT monitor and not with a LCD monitor. you can prove it this way: throw your computer out of the window and you will see that the one with CRT is faster

I used to tell people that there was a turbo switch on the back of their computers, it was a little slide switch on the power supply. For most people it wouldn't be a problem... this one guy from Europe though thought I was serious and slid the switch. And he had the audacity to say it was somehow my fault that his computer's power supply 'blew up' and killed his ram, hard drive, and motherboard.
