I am not sorry he is dead but everyone gathering around the tv to see somebody hang feels as if we are no better than the medieval ancestors we always claim to have moved on from that would be enjoying looking at the heads on spikes on Tower Bridge.

my sentiment exactly. Barbaric to say the least. How can we show executions on TV and complain about their beheading clips? What's the difference?

for most of us we are so far removed from the situation that it is more like watching a movie play out and cheering on the death of the villain on screen than reality. I live in a country that doesn't have the death penalty and won't even extradite prisoners to a country that does have it yet all our leaders are tight lipped today.

Amazing, that so many U.S. allies have abolished and oppose the death penalty (in fact, the majority of nations in the world now prohibit the death penalty), yet Bush considers this a sign of emerging democracy in Iraq - a nation in the midst of a civil war, brought on in large part by the U.S. invasion under false pretext.

The crime Hussein was hanged for, the U.S. govenment already knew about when the Reagan Administration sent special envoy Donald Rumsfeld to Iraq as a sign of support for Saddam to go to war with Iran:

More U.S. troops have now died in Afghanistan and Iraq, than people who died on 9/11. Osama is still at large, al Qaeda is still operational, and we are less safe than before, but more spied upon than ever by our own government.

The time for change has come...

Aljazera's English service is reporting way more details including an interview with one of the witnesses. No idea how widely available the channel is in the States as it is new but we get it on Sky in the UK. I usually can't stand watching it but this is the type of thing where they pull a lot less punches than the western media. They are showing the exact same tape..if there was more available at the moment I am sure they would be showing it.

I just turned on Fox,(I'm moving around channels to see how it is handled on different channels) and had to be amused by two pictures side by side, one being his dead body and they actually had to label one 'alive' and one 'dead'

Thats how I felt when I saw Gladiator. People who thrill at watching people die horrible deaths.

Saddam deserved it and Im glad he's gone, but I dont enjoy watching anyone being killed.

On my C-band system AJE is available freely on the strongest satellite I receive. Interestingly (unless my hobbiest group's charts have missed it, usually unlikely) the Al Iraqiyah channel isn't among the FTA mideast channels being bounced across North America.

I was referring to cable and official Satellite providers ( DishNetwork & DirectTv ).

It is hardly impossible to block reception of satellite system if you can point your dish and view the bird....

I love obituaries board!

Posted yesterday:

>I remember all those pictures from Rome of Mussolini's corpse hanging
>upside down and being pelted with garbage. I wouldn't be surprised if
>Iraqis treated Saddam in the same way. Give him to the people!
>This fascist is no better than Il Duce.

If you:

1. Have the right kind of satellite system

2. Know where to point it

3. Don't get too drunk

4. Can still maintain an erection

5. Have control over your orgasm

You may be able to watch the execution live and time your ejaculation
so it arrives at the exact moment his neck snaps.

The difference is that sawing someone's head off slowly is torture, while hanging is relatively humane (suffering is minimized). The difference is legal execution of a convicted criminal versus cruel public murder of a randomly chosen person.

You right, in North Korea they make everybody watch public executions of the enemies of the state, sentenced to death by the local courts. Same happened in Afganistan during the Taliban, England 'til about 300 years ago,
and I can't wait 'til I can strol to our local park and watch nice lethal injection.

both are murder..just because one is more clean doesn't mean it isn't barbaric to cheer it on and want to see the head on a stick..metaphorically, of course.

Sheesh... Amazing that execution pics in Iraq are lynch mob food for Americans. Saddam never wore a hood - ya want to see his face till the point of death?? Pity his head was never severed eh?

Suppose that morbid need for imaging is little less than can be expected from the descendants of lynch mobs - ignorant redneck tendencies are alive and well.

While checking out Saddam's carcass - don't forget the other 60 ish dead bodies in Iraq this morning - some are headless, some limbless, some just mangled - they include, innocent women, US troops and young children. It's a must see - in fact, fly there and see the blood flow - it's worth every dime of the flight cost

Heh, you could give a bunch of hardcore hobbiests over at the C-band forums coronaries by referring to DishNet and DirectTV as "official satellite providers" (suggesting that their system is not)

What's interesting is while C-band requires a large dish the channels I get on the Ku side of my big dish's mpeg receiver could be picked up on the same receiver with a dish about a meter in size. This is actually a popular way to receive TV in Europe and other countries but in North America those frequencies are used more for the distribution of feeds, backhauls and niche/ethnic programming. While I can swing my big dish over to IA6 get quite a range of Mideast TV and programming, someone with an interest only in MidEast programming can buy a receiver with small dish for under $150 and aim it at that satellite and receive the same channels. It's the same with blocks of channels for Asian, Spanish, etc. aimed at viewers in the US

I find it fascinating to check out all the stuff bouncing around over our heads even if I don't know what they are saying

They are showing the exact same tape..if there was more available at the moment I am sure they would be showing it.
talking about aljazera I stayed a while ago at the beverly hills hotel in california and I noticed about 5 middle eastern channels, never seen something like this in a US hotel, come to find out its owned by the sultan of brunai

They were probably getting the channels I mentioned above.

we get a bunch of middle eastern channels on digital tv here ..the original arabic Aljazera service has been been one you had to pay for separately but they started up an English language service last month and that is free to watch. They poached a couple of well known British reporters that are based in the middle east. I have only watched it a couple times just to try to get a view from another perspective. They certainly have their own slant too but not much worse than Fox..just in a different direction. However, this morning with the first reports of Saddam's death they were the best coverage. They were down on the streets when nobody else was and most of the experts and witnesses I have seen pop up on other channels were on with them first.

There are a bunch of 24 hour news channels popping up. This month the French launched one in English and I see a Russian one has popped up in our tv listings a couple days ago. It is interesting to see the same story reported by them all and see what they each pick up on as the slant.

thanx 4 the link, that is definately a good angle that they reported it on, and it seems that he was put away cleanly. That is book shut on that one, a happy ending for that guy, America looked after him i reckon.
