My experience with Webair

First week:

- At least 5 hours downtime
- Support wasn't able to fix stats problem (Contacted them a few times)
- 30 days money back guarantee is total bullshit ("I will look into the account note any issues with the server in the past 3 months, and look at your support tickets log...If there is reasonable cause for a refund I will credit your account."

Good thing this was for a small mainstream project and I just tried their smallest virtual plan and I didn't buy a dedicated and moved all my stuff there...

I'd hit up Mike - he should be able to help you out. I had been given the wrong server and Mike had it fixed within 8 hours with even better specs than I had ordered, on top of a service credit an awesome price on that server and the follow-on that I am ordering.

I've got servers with 4 different companies at the moment, Webair is by far the best.

We've been at webair for years now.. can you believe we run all of quickbuck on a 9.95 a month virtual server? ;-)

Seriously though, we have something like 30 or 40 servers at webair and while they have their weak points like any company they have always been there and always been on the ball with any problems.

We have tried every other major host out there but we still come back to webair.

I've been using them for years now. I'm buying ANOTHER box from them this month. I'm not saying they are unbeatable, there's lots of good companies, but I've never had a real problem with them at all. We are talking years with a capital Y at this point and mb's of sustained transfer being, err, sustained by them without fail. Heh heh

Was with webair for 3 years with 2 boxes, and it was mostly good. Support was average, not too many mistakes were made, sort of what you would expect for a cheap host. I wasn't too unhappy with my experience for what I paid.

Though when we tried to upgrade the boxes (being 3 years old and paying way too much), it all just became too hard and responses to our requests were few and far between. So I cancelled the 2 boxes and moved.

As far as cheap hosts go webair is ok. Though don't go thinking they are a nationalnet or isprime etc.

Why are all these bash Webair threads starting? At least do it when there isnt a huge show going on halfway across the country right now. I have never used them I dont know, just a valid point.

The boyz at webair are a good group. Take it from someone that is in the hosting business, they have always been helpful.

Hmmm, what's wrong with this statement???

Really, I'm sure Webair is a good server provider and host, but come on. Every time somebody says something's wrong, the replies are always 'contact Mike and he'll fix it for you'.

So, basically, Webair is a one-man band huh?

And just to show what sheep the Webair crew are - Webair recently advertised a European 'Special', with specs like:

Pentium4 2.8
1Gig RAM
5mbps
for $199

I said this was extremely expensive for Europe, since one of Europe's largest providers were offering far better, eg
Dual Opteron dual core
2 GB RAM
100mbps
for the same price

and I was shouted down for being a troll. Sure, it was a bit of a hijack, but I didn't mention the hosting company and was just trying to point out what level European hosting was at and for what price.

Dude, if GOOD European hosting was that cheap every company from adult to the fortune 500 would be hosting over there. They aren't because it's not.

On another note, Over the past 6 years I have been around this board I have noticed that some hosting companies use the dirtiest tactics to smear other hosting companies. They are like women. Catty, sneaky and all around hateful when it comes to competition. Only the hosts are like this on this board. So when you start to see random snipes just popping out of nowhere about hosts you kind of chalk it up to the way some folks in hosting play the game.

so, company criticism should stop when there is an industry convention? hell, where is the schedule for conventions, we may need to add it into the gfy calendar so people can keep track of when they can be upset with a company and when they can't....ROFL

Good point Jace. I have 2 boxes with WebAir and I haven't had any problems. There support is not the best but they do end up getting it done. It just takes them awile to respond to your support emails.

I have a box with another host too. They have the BEST support I've EVER had with a host. Each company has its up and downs. But in the grand scheme, they are both great hosts.

Overall they are very good BUT
Their junior tech are just shitty !!

Support ticket is horrible, they don't read half of it of your complain, they ask you questions that they woudn't have too if they read correctly. Not even able to fix stats problems and small bugs.

Solving issues is not what matters. Answering as much support ticket possible is their main goal.

Here is an example on how they read :

Me :ok... you can't solve my problem, please provide me Brian's email (He's a senior tech, very competent)

WEBAIR : [email protected]

Me : Ahhh common... I want to send an Email to Brian.

WEBAIR : He's not available right now.

Me : I don't want to talk with him... I want to send him an Email.

WEBAIR : ...

ME : So ?

WEBAIR : [email protected]

Me : Thanks !

Guess what ?? It was not even his correct Email address !!

Well, the one I was on about with the price has a lot of peering for transatlantic, but no more than redbus or cogent. They are excellent intra-europe though, which is what I use them for. It all depends on what you want european hosting for.

Mike - don't get me wrong, I've nothing against you or webair, but what I don't understand is how you keep changing your configurations on the fly. How does one know where the bottom line is?

Just a couple of days ago you posted the webair amerstam special as:
Quote:
* P4 3.0 GHz
* 1 GB RAM
* 5 mbps
* 2x 160 GB SATA Storage
*11 IPs
* Unlimited Domains
* Full Support 24x7x365
* $99 Setup - $199monthly
You say you can match any other webhosts' offers, yet I contacted you a while ago when I was looking for a new US host and you couldn't match splitinfinity's offer. So I went with them (no regrets at all), but what gives? Can you match OVH's prices in Europe?

--edit and what is the new offer?
2x 120 GIG SATA STORAGE
or
2x73GB SATA 1 Storage
????

320GB/month, yes
But operates on the 95th percentile for burstable billing

I had a box with them for a small project and didn't seem to have problems at all. I'm sure their dedicated boxes are top notch.

It would be nice to see the adult industry dump the "stand up top notch guys" bullshit. There are no "stand up top notch guys" anywhere - either in this industry or outside it.

Companies or "guys" are "stand up" as long as they can be bothered - and being human, they all fail at some point. "Top notch" is called getting the service you paid for - hardly celebration time.

This is not mean't as a reflection on Webair or any other host - it applies across the board. Everyone is "top notch" till they screw up - that is inevitable - then it's time to not waste words and move on.

Same here Wagerboy.. all that technical stuff with hosts can be a drawback to any webmaster. But thanks for the explanation of gigs, bw and mbits.

Ah... They got some nice shades of blue paint down your local hardware store. It's best to get a color chart and hold this up against your monitor to establish the right shade. Personally, I've found a small tin is more than enough - it's sufficient for ten coats....

Damn.. this thread is getting like a top notch resource for webmasters... uncommon on GFY...

I have to be honest, thats why I use dreamhost. I never have to worry about bandwidth or transfer or mbits. Im just an amateur "webmaster" trying to make a few bucks. I do know that i burn though BW. Im a submitter and so far my BW is up to 1600 gigs. Now if I had to pay overage, well, this game just wouldnt be fun no more.

I don't have much experience with webair, but have bought content from a company they host, and I when downloading the content it was the fastest transfer I have ever seen.

There is nothing quite like 5 Mbits including hosting for under $8/month eh?

OK.. Simplified version - 1 MBit = 320 Gigs of BW, so... your 1600 Gigs is going to equate to roughly 5 MBits. Amazing Dreamhost are not giving hassle, but who knows, it may reflect the numbers of accounts who don't use any bandwidth.

Now... Webair are threatening to offer you a dedicated server for $200/month with your BW - but changes are it would need to be more to handle traffic peaks - so $8/month and a willingness to take the rough with the smooth sounds not so bad

Webby- Thanks for explaining. Seriously. So what your saying is 1MBit=320 gigs transfer. So as of today, I have used 1600/320=5MBits....So at this pace, I will burn 3200 gigs or 10 MBits by the end of the month. So if I was to get a "box", I would need a 10MBit plan. (for $200) Why the fuck would I do that? BTW- I pay 9.95/month...I got ripped off.

What I dont get is this traffic peaks and such, thats when people have to pay overage? Im not being a wiseass no more, I seriously dont understand this whole thing. Teach me my friend

I've never had a real "issue" with Webair. If I'm ever down... I'm back up in seconds. On a dedicated P3... no probs to date.

Thanks Webair!
