I like the stupid study where if your friends are fat then you could get fat also. They never consider that thin people don't invite fat people to their parties and what not so the only people that hang out with fat people are people who might also know how they feel because they have a tendency to put on some weight.

I know too many people who are thin as a rail and their best friend for a decade is 300 pounds, so I have no idea how this study makes any since.

it's quite dependent on culture. In some older societies, a woman was ideal if her breasts were large enough to wrap around a baby to keep it warm. If she was a skinny wee thing, she wouldn't be able to raise healthy children or keep herself healthy at all.

Maybe in the third world fat means rich and prosperous, however in the Western world poor people are more likely to be overweight. This is in part do to cheap fast food availablility.
