Blog links vs directory links

Something that has bugged me for a while about hard link trades between blogs and blog directies.

When you add a hard link on a blog using a normal script like worpess or most of the other blog scripts, it puts that hard link on every page you build on that blog.

Meanwhile the link you get back from a directory site keeps moving down the list and back farther and farther on the list as they add new links. There is no static link in most cases on a specific page.

So has anyone tried just building a separate page on your blog and adding all the link directories there? Think you would be accepted?

I know a few blog directies order the links via how much traffic you send and don't mind giving those kinda sites main page links, but is it really fair to the blog owner to have to give most directories main page links being they don't do the same for you?

I mean you can't even use a link tracker to make sure the link stays on their page because your link will eventually change locations. Am I the only one that has a problem with this?

Blog directories are usually established sites with traffic, page rank etc. but we submit brand new blogs there and get traffic in return, so it is fair deal I think.

Secondly no one is putting a gun on your head to submit your blog to the directories, if you think you are getting a raw deal by submitting to directories just don't do it.

I personally feel, by submitting a new blog to decent directories gives the blog a kickstart with traffic, backlinks etc. So IMO a blog is well worth submitting to quality directories.

Yea I agree with you to an extent. But it doesn't take long before the rolls are reversed. Where it's the blog that isn't getting much back in return but the blog directory is getting a lot of benefit because of links on every page.

I like to keep my sites as clean as possible and I build them so they are set up to trade as much traffic as possible. It just seems like there should be a better way so that it benefits both sites involved equally.

I mean lets face it, the way most directories are set up, the benifit to the blog is really only there the first 2-3 months after it's submitted. After that the links start falling farther and farther back as more sites are added unless the directory site lists by traffic in or posts made.

That and half the time it's hard as hell just to find my own links on some of them, so how will the surfers ever find them?

I just made the post to see some ideas on better ways to trade links with these sites. So it's fair for both sides over the long run.
