do you drive an enviromently friendly vechile?

been reading blogs and they tell me my new car (waiting for it to arrive) the mercedies ML320cdi isn't as good as the lexus rx400H (the me4rcedies is deisel and the lexus is hybrid)

I call bullshit. they get the SAME milage on the highway but the lexus does a little better in the city cause that's how hybrid's work..

ok - fine - lexus wins - but think about this - hybrids need to change ALL the batteries at about 100Kms. that's huge... and massive horrible for the enviroment. deisels go on and on and on and never die - most do WAY over 500Kms - way over.

so which one is really better for the enviroment.........

personally i think deisel is a better option. in 3 years when my lease is up it'll have WAY more value cause it won't need new batteries! it's JUST broken in for a deisel.

and for those that are gona ream me out for being green - i'm also a cheapass so that's my other excuse.... but mostly i got this particular car cause they are in huge demand and very very hard to get and i love having what no one else has.....

they both get just shy of 40MPG and that's awesome for a BIG 4x4 vechile with tons of room

If it uses fuel its not "environmentally friendly" - get a bicycle if you really care - otherwise youre just falling for the great American ad hype and another idiot gets suckered

I've seen a few in my area (Australia). There was a recent fuss because a husband and wife parked their two smart cars in the same spot, and received a fine. The question raised was, are you paying per car, or per spot?

Personally I wouldn't dream of owning one, I don't necessarily subscribe to the "biggest is safest" argument but I do believe that something that small is definitely going to come off second best in an accident.

I'd get it for a secondary/novelty car. I like my space in a car! Cute though

My car is sorta environmentally friendly.. It's only a 2.5 litre 6 cylinder... with 2 turbos... :D

(to be honest it's pretty good on fuel provided you don't lean on the accelerator too much)

I drive the Lexus 400h you speak of....but I didn't really get it for the environment. I got it because it's faster and handles better than the Lexus 350.

my car is no way "enviormentally friendly" but does have a really low "smog" rating. If you compare the emissions of most cars in califronia, they are much better than a lot of places elsewhere in the US.

When i moved here, i had a '98 honda accord v6 with low emissions. my friend has the same one but without the emissions dealy and his car didnt pass the smog test. So my point is that i dont think its the size of the engine as much as it is the emissions that is hurting the enviorment

There are tons of Smart cars (Two) around here in Vancouver. They seem to be popular with businesses wanting little peppy cars for service people like Geek Squad type stuff. They're perfectly suited to jetting around town all day, then resting all night: no highway, no long hauls.

They're advertising the Jetta TDI on the radio now, and my friend who reviews cars for a magazine said he drove the TDI to 700km and it still had a quarter of a tank of fuel. The ads say it can go 1000kms on a single tank. Sure, it's still a combustible fuel with emissions, but it can use so much LESS to go the same distance.

My Fiat Punto (yeah I'm so pimp) does 17 km on 1 liter so yes I like to think that it's environmental friendly. At least friendlier than most cars around here and close to the 1:20 of the Toyota Prius. And it's way better looking hehe

The fact that you would get in one and get on the road is troubling.
In even a minor accident you have no chance of surving.

No but I don't drive very much anymore, but my next new car will likely be something that gets much better gas millage.

As it sits right now, my truck (Toyota Tacoma 4 door) is fairly new, so even if I sold it, someone else would be driving it. So in reality nothing would be done to help the enviroment, simply because the truck would still be on the road.

Being I don't drive it much I don't see it as much of a issue, so I see no reason to change cars at this time. The next time I buy a new car, unless I get the sports car bug I'll likely get something that gets much better gas millage. (surprising enough my Toyota gets about the same gas millage as a full size Chevy truck.. go figure I would have thought it would be much better)

No, drive a 5.7L and get somewhere in the realm of 20L per 100k's. Next will be a 6L for daily and 7 or 8L to play with....

If you're trying to go green then neither of those vehicles are really up to the task. If they actually did just shy of 40 MPG that would be great. There's no way they will actually get that.

A German auto magazine tested them (Auto-Motor-und-Sport) and this is what they got for results:
RX400h 10.1 l/100km (23.2 mpg) - ML320CDI 12.4 l/100km (18.9 mpg)

The Lexus was also over a full second quicker from 0 - 60, but had about 7 MPH lower top speed.

Both are nice vehicles though. I'm lucky to get 18 MPG highway in my truck with a 5.7 L V8.

fuck the haters.... this car is HOT. anyone whose seen 1 in person is BOUND to want it just for the novelty. i'm sure they're overpriced but i'd pick 1 up in a second if they were available in the US.

One of my cars is kinda environment friendly, it gets a decent MPG (around 40 MPG).

My other cars are pretty bad - one does around 10-12 MPG and the other 2 do around 20-25 MPG.

For some reason, I only like environment unfriendly cars

If a 360CID V-8 powered SUV is your definition of "environmentally friendly" then yes, my vehicle is great on the environment.

Just remember hippies, for every gallon of gas you save, I burn two!

Good on ya! I wish there were more bio-diesel pumps around here so people would convert a little faster. As it is, the closest one to me is across the border in Point Roberts, WA.

Kristin drives a Jetta DTI, does over 40mpg. We got it used from a salesman, who kept the car oddly super clean. Now we have 500k+ miles to go at 42+ mpg and at any point we can modify it to run on alternative fuels.

We test drove the Lexus and new Toyota Hybrid (which sounded like it was going to stall) and some others. We ended with the Jetta for overall best cost, power, gas millage, longevity of the car, and if at some point fuel costs go through roof we can modify the car.
