Blueray DVD or HDVD
What's better and what's going to last? I think im going with the blueray even though they have fewer titles i hear read they are outselling HDVD 3 to 1 what do you think?

I think get the LG BH-100 player - it plays both formats. Then you don't need to worry about which one will win. Unfortunately, it is around $1100 at Best Buy or Circuit City. But worth it if you ask me.
Also, the outsell 3 to 1 is a bit far fetched. At the moment BluRay may be selling more but only because HD DVD titles have been slow to come out as of late but HD DVD players are still out selling BluRay players. I have a HD DVD player and I love it but there are definately BluRay titles I would love to see so if I had to do it over again, I would go with the LG BH-100 player so I could have it all! |

Oh yeah, BluRay players are around $700-800 bucks. HD DVD players are about half that PLUS you get 5 free HD DVD with a HD DVD player right now plus the picture quality on HD DVD is tons better than HD DVD. Great deal if you don't go with the LG BH-100 player.

Because of the PS3 containing a built in blu-ray player ther are 5X times as many blu-ray players as HD-DVD players. That ratio will only get bigger. That's where Microsoft fucked up not including HD-DVD with the XBOX 360. |

Microsoft gave their consumers a choice and didn't sack them for an additional $200 unless the consumer wanted it. I've got both. Right now BluRay has a few more titles, while the HDDVD titles are usually $5-10 less than the same title on BluRay. |

I personally think including the blu-ray was a smart move, even if it does bump the price of the ps3 to ridiculously high.

That's Sony's stance. Developers say otherwise. The only thing that extra space will really be used for will be CGI cutscenes and Full Motion Video...not really anything that will effect gameplay. Give me some great games to play. So far, my 360 has been doing that, my PS3 sits and waits. Hell, the hottest Playstation game out at the moment is God of War for PS2, the PS3 is soooooo lacking.

You do realize the sales numbers for the HD-DVD add on are miniscule compared to how many PS3 are our there. Also consider this the person that bought the HD-DVD add on spent $399 for premium XBOX 360 with 20 GB HDD $100 for wi-fi $200 for HD-DVD addd-on no HDMI available. MS says sooon, but of course will be an add-on and will cost more $$$$ TOTAL $700 not including cost of future HDMI add-on. Premium PS3 with 60 HDD comes with wi-fi, blu-ray, and HDMI 1.3 for $600 Now how stupid is that? Quote:

Blu-ray has more than just a few more titles. And that means a lot. For example I'm sure Spiderman 3 will be a huge hit in theaters and will one of the most anticipated movies for home theater. It will only come out on blu-ray not HD-DVD. Prices will drop for both like DVDs have, as more get sold. Blu-ray is selling a shitload more so their price drops will come faster and be more. |

Blue ray is better but HD Dvd has already pulled ahead (its what I use). But the rummer is both will last since the disk costs these guys less then a penny anyways.

As for movie players, HDDVD units are already 1/2 the price of BR players. The only reason you're seeing more BR player #s, is from the PS3 owners...which most people bought for gaming purposes, not movies. So those numbers don't hold the full weight of someone purchasing the MS HDDVD addon because they wanted to watch HDDVD movies. That's my point. None of the rental places in my mid-sized city are renting either format. Netflix has HDDVD, but no Bluray (at the moment). You mentioned that there are some Bluray exclusives, well the same can be said for HDDVD. In the case that the title is available on both formats, HDDVD is always cheaper. The menu setup for all the extra features on HDDVD provides a much better user experience. I've got both so what I'm saying comes from my research as well as using both setups. |

Not true. Both are very well protected and can take a significant amount of stress and still play fine.

I love my bluray..
I'd actually say MORE titles are available on HD-DVD, at a slightly lower price, but that bluray is pulling ahead... I now have 14 bluray movies that I use on my PS3, and no games... I think that bluray's early advantage lead will really help them win the battle... I also like the fact that bluray technically has more storage space IF it's ever needed... And I just rented a bluray movie last night from blockbuster for the same price as a regular dvd ![]() |

Bluray has 50gig capacity, They have new dual layer HDDVD that will have 51. I'm sure it'll go back and forth, but that's where it stands now.
