I've never been so excited about a new car. Too bad I have to wait until 2008.

www.teslamotors.com

I just placed an order. 0-60 in 4.0 seconds without using gasoline. How could I not buy one?

100,000 dollars isn't really that much money for a machine like that, if you think about it. The only real negative is laying out 50,000 dollars as a deposit for a year until you get one. However, this is the kind of car that you could drive for 6 months then sell for the same price you paid for it.

Why wouldn't a car like this depreciate as well? Don't the internal parts need replacing after a few years as well? I have to admit though, this does seem really cool!

It's supply and demand. Mike Price tought me this trick. When you buy a car that requires a waiting list, you can usually flip it for the same as you paid for it to someone that doesn't want to wait, assuming you flip it within 6 months. The key is to always be on a waiting list so you are always coming off a waiting list. That way, you always drive something new and cool. It's really on the first year that you have to layout deposits that hurt your personal cash flow. After that, you are rolling deposits into new deals all the time.

Did that make sense?

nope, electric cars need barely any maintenance

that is why the major manufacturers won't make them, they get almost NO money on parts...the auto parts industry is a multi billion dollar a year industry, and if they went all electric it would kill that industry

here ya go

EVs do not need tune-ups, old changes, mufflers, fuel pumps, carburetors, etc. No pollution. EVs create no exhaust fumes, no gas, no coolant, and no waste oil. Even including the pollution from the utility's power plant, an electric car is 97% cleaner than a gas car. That's good for the environment, and it also means less hassle for the owner: no smog inspection needed, no complex and expensive emission control system to break down.

Surely there's got to be some parts within the electrical system that need replacing? Batteries, motors, brake pads, suspension, something? I can't see anything electrical running for 4+ years without some sort of repair needed?

have you seen Who Killed The Electric Car?

there is a lady here in town that has one of the Rav4's...the original electric ones....I talked to her in great length about it, and aside from yearly checkups, it hasn't needed any big maintenance in the 4 years she has had it

change the wiper fluid and get new tires is all she has had done for the most part and it is still in perfect working order

The gas you'd save over the lifetime of the vehicle would be extremely valuable.

If I leave the city limits of Atlanta I'm in an airplane so I'm not stressing it. Either way, for a 350 dollar add-on you can buy a portable charger.

Not just the manufactures but also the dealers. I use to do some consulting work for a dealer chain here in Houston. Working on the owners comp once I saw a spreadsheet of the monthly income. 65%-70% of their money comes from parts and service, not car sells. And these weren't small hole-in-the-wall dealerships.
