Sure, why not...what do you have to lose?! If it doesn't work out, sell it or let it expire. Best of Luck!

.net domains are OK, as a lot of big paysites and freesites can testify. Thing is if the .com is doing exactly what you want to do with the .net then it is not so great if they started before you.

Go to - http://www.afternic.com/names.php?c=0&sold=1

or sedo.com listings of recently sold names

These peeps http://marketplacepro.moniker.com/index.html have regular auctions and publish the winning bids

This is a good resource for recent sales:
http://www.dnjournal.com/domainsales.htm

and to answer your question - sure if its the right .net
realestate.net sold last month for $300k
and theres been a few others this year over $25k a piece
but then there have been some .info and .mobis that
have gotten over that amount as well

Correct.

But if it's just some fucking squatter on the .com, and .net's a nice alternative.

I bought www.stickybox.net and put a bid in on stickybox.com but dont think Ill get it, cause he does a fair amount of traffic on it, even though its an ancient looking site.
