It has to go through redemption period before being completely dropped.

Checkout the drop cycle process image on there and read "Difference between expired and dropped". Most domains go through 3 stages after they expire... 1. Registrar-Hold 2. RedemptionPerod 3. PendingDelete Usually 45-90 day wait after it drops, unless it's a snapnames priority partner.

And each register has different timelines on domain expiration! Your best bet is to backorder it, if you really want it. Best of Luck!
