MMA mostly, but I love to practice my hands. As a former wrestler I could use the improvement.

6 pro fights as a heavyweight in my much younger days.

Started in the gym when I was 10 years old.

Hung up gloves after 6th fight when I had the crap beaten out of me for 8 solid 3 minute rounds by a guy who REALLY could box.

I just thought I could.

Represented my university in the National Heavyweight Champs

I lost in the final to the undisputed champ. The fucker was good, but not THAT much better than me....

Since those Ive been on a bit of a downer regards training, kinda getting a belly back cuz Ive switched all my gym time for book time.

Takes ballz just to step through the ropes man. I once took an exhibition kickboxing match (early in my training) against an actual Thai fighter 20 pounds heavier than me, for a years subscription to Playboy. Thankfully he took pity on me and only attacked me from the waist down, so I could feel every shot rather than the merciful knockout I would have preferred!
(If I could've only clinched)

Boxing is just far to one dimensional for me. MMA is where it's at. Train 5-6 days a week.

Don't get me wrong, I also have a black belt in Zen Do Kai, so I can handle myself, just the guy I fought the last outing ended up as Australasian Heavyweight Champ about 12 months later - he COULD box.

And you are right, I have along history of legal and illegal violence, and by FAR the hardest thing I have ever done was getting in the ring the first time.

Ironically, April 1 1989 was my first fight, I had no amateur fights at all.

I never fought for fun - either in or out of the ring.

Used to, until I started getting serious and immediate headaches every time I ate a jab. I switched to grappling. If I never have to take another punch in my life, that's fine with me.

I understand that, having been a boxer, martial artist, bouncer and streetfighter.

My friend the Warring one would not be questioning skill levels or comparisons, simply available "choices".

I would have been a MUCH better boxer if I could have swept legs or used elbows and forearms ;-)

I didn't mean it as an insult. I've spent many years boxing and later kick boxing. Yes there's lots of strategy involved, and it takes heart, but in the end it's all about punching. One dimension when you compare it to MMA where you can punch, kick, elbow, knee, throw, clinch, grapple, etc. You see what I mean?

As far as me not knowing boxing, hey, you won't catch me sucking wind like that.

Blood doping rocks. Where I live in Costa Rica is like 4000-5000 ft above sea level, so it's like constant blood doping. When I go to the beach, can run all day and never run out of breath.

hmm.... MMA is a cool sport an all, but after seeing it live a lot of times, theres a big gap between the form. I mean, I LOVE to watch the fights where both fighters want to use a lot of bare knuckle strikes n stuff. And they really dig in the kicks.

But I HATE the ones that go to ground! And heres why...

Its inpractical in a real fight situation. You go to ground - you get stamped.

Ive trained under some great Muay Thai guys (trained under European Champ for a while) and I maintain that it's the most effective on the street. However to train in it 3 or 4 times a week, in a normal lifestyle, is just STOOPID! lol

I was coming home every session with black eyes, cuts, bruises, sprains, muscle injuries etc etc. The training was just TOO intense, especially if you have to go to work/classes/woman straight after.

Thats why kickboxing was a great compromise for me. It helped me keep sharp hands for those times in clubs when some dick thinks he can grab your missus's ass. It lets me keep my taekwondo "showmanship" kicks sharp. And its a great aerobic workout. But it's a lot more controlled, and therfore fits into a regular life much easier.

Just thought I'd ramble.

You're rambling, that's for sure.

Make sure you tell all those guys with broken arms that grappling is impractical. Once they wake up from the rear naked choke.

Truth...
Most fights eventually end up on the ground cause street fighters get gassed so quick.

I cannot help but notice (and comment) as reading through all the posts here that when you look at who is posting about what they do that those same names RARELY appear in keyboard warrior threads unless there is "specific performance" involved......

He he

Boxing is great, but it fails against MMA.

For instance, slipping punches is great, against another puncher, but when you have the possiblity of someone kicking you or taking it to the ground, it's not that great of a reaction.

MMA is the closest to a real fight you can find, and the closest you can to testing yourself fighting without going to jail.

But I HATE the ones that go to ground! And heres why...

Its inpractical in a real fight situation. You go to ground - you get stamped.

I was coming home every session with black eyes, cuts, bruises, sprains, muscle injuries etc etc. The training was just TOO intense, especially if you have to go to work/classes/woman straight after.
What makes you think the a grappler is fightng by himself?

This is an old argument by those who don't know ground fighting. I have a better chance of controlling it on the ground than a fighter who doesn't. If you don't train for all ranges of fighting, then you will never be a complete fighter.

I'm training for my first MMA fight 5 days a week, and rarely get a black eye, contusions, etc... It's training, not all out fighting.

MMA, is great, but i still like to watch a good boxing match especially the lighter divisions, those guys are non-stop.

sorry to go back to this but I have never seen a fight down town last onger than 10 seconds. The minute anyone is on the floor, theres his friends stamping him, his friends stamping him, bouncers/police pulling/hitting him etc etc

I merely meant that it isn't as close to the real deal as people try to make out.

And I personally, down to taste, don't find it as fun to watch as striking (thai, boxing, kickboxing)

I never said I don't spar hard, just I don't get black eyes, contusions, etc...

Those are injuries from not sparring smart, with pads, head protection, et al.
