From what they said on the news, it was a Chinese guy here on a visa. I don't think they can buy guns. So that means he illegally had the gun..... and we all know that criminals follow gun laws.

How would gun control have prevented this?
Do you want to make ALL guns illegal?
What about hunting rifles and shot guns?
Background checks?..worthless in predicting what someone who has a clean record will do, do they stop some criminals from owning guns..legally yes..but that doesn't mean they cant get one on the street.

There are many ways to cause death and destruction that don't involve guns..pipe bombs..fertilizer bombs..poison..driving a bus into a crowd of people...dozens of other things as well...what about those?

and do you really think this is a liberal vs conservative issue?..why make it political?..its not..many liberals own guns and many conservatives don't.

its a sad tragedy..but really very little could have been done legally to prevent it.

fuck a ban i like my guns.

maybe people should have been more nice to that chinese fucker. but to take away guns from law abiding citizens just because there are a few irresponsible assholes is retarded.

i mean if thats the route you want to take. why don't we just ban alcoholic beverages while were at it. after all drivers under the influence kill more people every year here in the states than guns do.

all a ban does is give a false sense of security to all you idiots who think otherwise.

More laws or stricter laws will not stop criminals from purchasing guns ILLEGALLY.

Can anyone here tell me what the key word in the above sentence is

It's "just" another school shooting - prob the fourth the the last few decades on a scale (forgetting all the others with lower fatalities).

We have rights to possess weapons and shit - are we going to hang on to them? *lol* The rest of the "rights" have been removed without much problem/protest - but never try and take our guns away. It's our God given right

Excuse me while I buy a few more guns to protect myself...

Time will tell on this incident PA, but it's the usual old crap where guns are available to anyone who actually wants one. If they can't get one legally - out comes the Saturday night dropdown for $50 (tho the weapon in this case was more than a hand gun).

If your opinion was anywhere near the truth.. it would a wonderful world.

I could leave my house right now... 12:04am and within 1 hr I can find and purchase 2 or 3 firearms for about 50 dollars each off the street.

Yes, it really is that easy

Matt, since gun companies can't sell guns to criminals, how do you think they get them? Perhaps they steal them from people who buy them legally, or perhaps buy it from a friend who happens to "lose" his gun, and files a police report about it?

These guns don't just fucking appear out of thin air.

At this point, gun control is a lost cause because there are way too many guns out there. Gun control now would basically mean disarming the citizens and allowing the criminals to stay armed. That isn't going to fly.

The punishment for use of a weapon in a crime should be 25 to life, mandatory sentence, and no fucking around. Possession of an unlicensed or stolen handgun mandatory 10 year sentence. All sentences served consecutively to any other sentences received.

The US is majorly soft on crime.

Sure.. they steal em, rob gunshops, stolen during burglaries etc and, not sure what the current status is, but used to be able to buy them at "gun fairs".

Would sound like if there were less guns around, there would be less guns for crooks and other mentally unbalanced folks to get their hands on.

There's to many guns around in the USA already. So putting a ban on them will only hurt the people who have a registered gun. And those people DO have it for safety.

Shit like this will keep on happening as long as the f*CKIN media keeps doing those huge reports on it. I'm from Holland, and even here It's the talk of the town, bringing those few nutcases on ideas.

So why doesn't the media BAN these kind of stories? Sweeps, commercail income etcetera. Why do we watch it then? because we simply enjoy other peoples misery.

And if you really want someone dead as much as that guy did, you'll find a way eventually, even without a gun. We have the internet. The inexhaustible source for whatever it is you need, even guns, bombs anything.

man, i hate the gun culture in the US. I know people defend their 'rights' to have guns to the death. but really, look at the crime rate diff and the gun law diff in Canada and the States. I know there are WAY less people in Canada, but doesn't it still shed some important light? really!

Criminals in Europe or Australia can get their hands on guns just like you can, but they don't go around killing randomly like happens pretty regularly in the States.

If a pshyco chinese student here in Australia wakes up with a death wish, he will have to do with a machete or something and see how many he can take out with that.

I'm the simpleton huh... ok, I'll try to dumb down my language for you to understand. I'll even make the important words larger.

Keep screaming for more laws to make it harder to LEGALLY purchase firearms. Sure, go ahead and pass some new laws to do this.. I'll even support them and vote for them.

But what you dont seem to grasp is... The guns used in the majority of these shootings/crimes and what ever are not purchased LEGALLY. They are purchased on the street or blackmarket, from drug dealers, thieves who steal them from others, it doesnt matter because they are obtained ILLEGALLY. No new law making it harder for the LEGAL PURCHASE of firearms is going to stop the back room/street corner ILLEGAL deals done by criminals.

You do understand the concept of LEGAL and ILLEGAL dont you? One is allowed by law, one is against the law. The person who plans to go on a rampage like this... which route do you think he will take to obtain a firearm?

Is that simple enough for you?

Perhaps... and this is just a thought....

maybe before opening your mouth to make a comment you should find out what you are talking about.

there are restrictions, waiting periods and background checks done before the LEGAL purchase of a firearm.

the days of being able to walk into any gun store and walk out 10 minutes later with a gun are long over

Excuse me mr dumbass, they were all PRIOR to our new gun control laws were brought in. We learnt from those shootings and made it much harder to obtain guns. No massacres here for over 10 years...

Here in Australia we had many mass shootings prior to 1996. Before then it was much easier to obtain guns. We changed our gun laws and really tightened it up. Now there are far less guns on the streets so that even if a nutcase wanted to ILLEGALLY purchase a firearm they would find it pretty difficulat to do so. Since then we have not had one massacre.

there are restrictions, waiting periods and background checks done before the LEGAL purchase of a firearm.

the days of being able to walk into any gun store and walk out 10 minutes later with a gun are long over
Apparently, thats exactly what this kid did...walked into a gun shop and bought a gun, and walked out.

The US is majorly soft on crime.
I agree

We need to further punish those who provide guns to people illegally rather than trying to pass a bunch of laws that do nothing but make soccer moms feel safer, but accomplish little else. There also need to be more gun safety programs.

I grew up in rural Wyoming where everyone had a gun (you could legally walk down the street with a pistol strapped to your side, as long as it wasn't concealed and of course you couldn't take them into a bar) and the violent crime rate was almost zero. I think it came from the fact that everyone owned a gun, so that deterred crime and not only did everyone have a gun, they actually knew how to shoot the damn thing. Would any of that have stopped a massacre like this recent tragedy? Probably not. If someone is determined enough to do damage, they will. Look what a couple arabs did with boxcutters and a few airplanes...

Try reading the article and not the misleading title.....

Quote:
One told him that the Glock 19 thes shop sold Cho in March was used in the massacre.
Bought the gun in March, so that could be anywhere from almost 3 weeks to a month and a half ago.

Quote:
Cho bought the second gun a month later, also in Virginia.
The article says nothing about him buying the gun(s) that day as the title leads to believe.

And again, as I stated... Make it harder to purchase the guns and I will support and vote for the law.

Sadly, a new law now will do nothing to stop the millions of stolen/illegal guns already floating around on the streets.

Not really
Canada yas 33 million people, the US has 298 million
Big difference in population and ethnicity.. it all contributes to crime rates.
