The way to beat torrents

Flood them with large files filled with nothing but CRAP. Sour the milk.

If you can download over a terabyte of original content, you have more patience than me.

If the torrent sites have all the traffic, why wouldn't the spyware guys be targeting them?

Remember all the fucked up files on napster near the end? The song would suddenly scramble?

Unfortunately if you do that, Steve, they ban your seeds. Unless a lot of people were doing it and creating new seeds continually.

Problem is, there are reviews of the torrents so if you upload crap, someone will say "there is crap in that file, don't download it"... You'll have to find something better

yep, i heard that napster was crap at the end.......truly I think you are onto something. this could be one of the pillars we need to break, to bring this down.

to bad we couldnt outsource a crew or something to post crap vids all day and night. the big companies if they cared, should all get in on it.

The problem again.. is broadband. It doesn't take nearly as long as it did back in the napster days for people to download fake/corrupt files, then report on said files telling other people not to download them. Most of the larger torrent sites feature comment sections that are quick to report if the files are bogus or not.

you've also got to realize a lot of the bigger torrent sites are invite only. seeding fake shit will just get you banned. it's not like p2p where fake shit keeps being passed around.

Yep... and as vvq noted many of the larger torrent communities are private and invite only. Taking on torrents with junk data is almost impossible.

There's companies that specialize in this (usually for music companies). They flood the P2P networks with garbage files named after the music companies' files.

Many of the 'trust rank' for files can be manipulated. These companies do that.

Looks like you just created a business opportunity--P2P protection for adult companies.

Good looking out

and you could imbed a trojan that highjacks their computer on the files that states that they have just downloaded copy written material, and charge them 3 times the price of a regular site membership to have it removed.

I thought that was already being done with drm? The most popular porn downloads on some big torrent sites I saw today were all protected. I guess the site owner cut a deal with the content owner? Seems like a trend.

...oh noes does this mean DH was right with his "Ya can't beat 'em so try to work with 'em" advice?

The RIAA and MPAA have been doing similiar things for a long time. You want to bust people downloading your torrents? Start downloading them yourself and grab the IPs of all the peers and start sending C&D's to their ISPs, just like the RIAA and MPAA do. Making junk torrents and trying to hijack torrents with bogus packets is a waste of time and resources, it's far too easy to even the stupidest of the stupid to avoid.

Computer piracy has been going on ever since the first personal computer rolled off the assembly line. You will never stop it, you _might_ put a small tiny dent in it at best. If you want to stop people from stealing your content it's time for you to rethink "the paysite".

Well it wouldn't be stealing if you give the torrent site your protected content to upload as your affiliate and he bans your site keywords to reduce the popularity of illegal torrents.

I can't see how it works long term as I would think the torrent site would die so it must be a bit more complicated than that but it is apparently working for now on some sites.

We have been adding unique IDs (easy to setup, and users can not see them) to the movies when they stream/download - the IDs can be matched against our user database, so we know who initially spread the videos to the P2P, torrents etc. One of these days we might start lawsuits against thoese who initially spread the videos on the net.

If more companies did this, then it might slow down people who take the content from the members areas.

Take yesterday's most popular porn torrents on btmon for example

http://btmon.com/day/1

Pretty much all drm protected The torrent site owner must be aware and indeed, getting his affiliate commission otherwise he would have removed them by now.

His IP would probably end up on the PeerGuardian database, that program blocks millions of IP's already.

Here here! Very practical, proves where point of distribution started. Would be great to see others adopt this method, especially if they start suing individuals.

I spoke to TMM about watermarking photos quietly on the fly, but no dice.
Content owners should take a stance, stop blaming torrent sites.

I'm so shocked that webmasters are only JUST catching on. These sites have been around for YEARS.

Honestly fellas, if it became common knowledge that a cease and desist letter might be coming... through your ISP... with your name on it... to your family mailbox... with the movie's name on it I'm pretty sure that would stop a lot of people from downloading porn.

A friend of mine got a C&D for downloading the Sopranos. It was emailed to his wife's account since she set up the cable. Embarrassing. Now, imagine if that wasn't the Sopranos but instead was Ebony Trannies Need White Cock! LOL

I think the C&D route would work well for porn.

is anyone making large bank by getting into bed with these guys?

i mean content owners giving it to them in a certain fashion

getting in on the money...you could then control the amount of content going out, and be prompting for memberships...i have a feeling these site owners would love to be getting more checks each month

I always wondered why nobody did this to at least see which account was to blame. But the problem with this is if the users account was stolen/hacked etc. then I doubt any good would come of a lawsuit against them.

You would probably have some people sue you for breaking up their marriage and the stress you caused them. I can't think of the exact terms but I'm sure they would think of something. I wouldn't be shocked if they won the lawsuit too.

post files named "teenmodels_update_june2007.zip" or similar and put only installs and trojans there. they will no more download files named as that. i think that way you can beat few newbies. but older users know that they have to download only from proven members

The real problem is that torrent sites are much bigger business than most people recognize and there is alot more behind this whole thing, take Pirate Bay as just one example: https://youtube.com/watch?v=Eg1S9n81ras

The combined power of the music and mainstream movie industry were unable to bring them down so far, do you really think that the adult industry could do anything to kill their business.

I hate them, they are parasites and every effort to get rid of them is honorable, but it's tilting at windmills.

Sometime when you cant win with regular weapons then you need to use illegal weapons-like DDOS attacks which will crash any server where is torrent site.

Crashing it for how long? An hour? Two? Three? You can't keep it down indefinitely and after a person grabs the torrent files they want from the site their actual downloads are not going to be disrupted... the torrent sites don't host any files other than the torrent file itself. Disrupting people from being able to download the torrent for a few hours will do nothing.

The easiest solution: Streaming only, on every single paysite out there. With todays bandwidth, it's not much of a problem, but it's like TGP2:

Everybody is scared of losing sales, everybody wants others to make the first step and so everybody is waiting till the shit really hits the fan.
