If someone writes you an email, don't respond in icq...

It drives me nuts and never fails

I send someone an email and they respond in icq

if I send an email there is a reason for it...to me email is documented, it is professional and there is always a record of it...yes, I know icq has logs, not the point...the point is that I use email so that things can sit in my inbox and every day I open my Outlook I can see what needs to be done, so when people respond to emails in icq, that record is not there...

I even tell people my preferred method of communication is email, and they still do it

ANNOYING...

Doesn't really matter to me. I write myself emails all the time when its something important like that. The quickest way to get information across is usually my preferred method.

i prefer email as well especially for new clients.. i always ask them if they can email me all the details/instructions/specs for their design so i could get back to it anytime we got a problem. some people don't like email though especially a lot of people don;t like giving you more details for their designs so if the output sucks they blame it to their designer. what a shame

oh and my icq always fucked up.. i hate messengers on mac.. not reliable.. so email is the best way.. and my mail client is open 24hours a day like my browser.

I dont think that ICQ should be used for anything but a active conversation.
Don't ever use the excuse "but I ICQ'd you." They always get lost, go to different computers etc. Always email something if you need to know 100 percent that the person is going to get your communication. That's my 2 cents.

While I agree email is much more reliable than ICQ, treating it as a 100% communication solution is wrong. Emails go missing often enough. I would say 90-95%. The only 100% solution is an active conversation where you can say "did you get that?"

When communicating over the Internet you really need to take extra precautions to ensure that the other party has received your full message.

Agreed, email is the way to go for business communication unless its like some long-time client that has a tab with you.

I can relate, and totally agree. I hate icq, it can sometimes just waist a day away.

if only someone could integrate some ICQ client into the Getting Things Done plugin system for Outlook, I'd be golden.

I will only communicate with two cans and a string. I don't trust anything else.

If I am doing work for someone and need proof or better decumentation, I normally respond back , in email.
That way, if I have instructions..its easier to get them, instead of stiffing thru tons of icq messages.

I agree
Often times I'll get an email that says "second request" then an email message and I'll think "hmmm, I didn't even see the first request" or I'll get an ICQ with "well?"

I always try to follow up emails/ICQs if I don't receive a reply. Sometimes, I'll just pick up the phone.

true enough. happens here at my work where we use IM's as our form of communication but some times you need email.
just ask them to respond to you via email.
