:stop ANybody any idea? New computer system but no video signal on boot up

m2n32 ws pro asus motherboard
GeForce 8800GTX 768Mb video card

Everything seems to work. Drives, fans etc but i simply get display.

It really looks like either the video card is kaput or the motherboard. Which in both cases would suck very much.

Any other possibilities?

Did you build it? If so make certain all the screws holding the mother board in place are correct, or get sit the mobo outside the case and see if it boots. Also make sure your memory is tightly in its channels.

No it does not. But is that beep supposed to come from the motherboard? I didnt attach any internal speaker cords to it.

About the screws: I took the MB out and tried again but that didnt help.

Try putting a known video card / memory in? but really you are kinda fucked, besides double checking that all parts are secure, you can't really do much in this situation... :-/

You might be over analysing it - I had the same problem and just didn't realise it needed a separate power connection.

Its easy to miss the obvious

I had this same exact problem with the Asus P5N32-SLI 590 motherboard and OCZ ram, especially the "gold" and "platinum" editions. I had to send back like a dozen sticks to them for them to flash the chips with an update, fixed the problem whatever it was. In the interim before I got them back I had switched to corsair ram, had no trouble at all posting then.

You could try to hit up a local store and buy a stick of ram there just to check and see if it is the ram... most stores here let you return it for a full refund within 14 days so if that isn't the problem you could take it back probably.

Damn, i have the platinum version....

It sucks so much not knowing what the problem is. I might try and buy some cheap ram tomorrow to test it.

Shit.

To me it sounds like you simply don’t have enough power. I have the same card and you need at least 500W power supply to power everything up.

I don't see why this would be problem with the RAM because BIOS should start even without RAM...

Well, it's not the power then Just make sure that "extra power" cable is connected to the motherboard...
But I am still pretty sure it has nothing to do with the RAM as BIOS would start anyway. Good luck?

Almost all motherboards have a buzzer nowadays, you don't even need to plug in the case speaker, and very few cases come with a speaker anyways.

It should beep during boot, if it doesn't it's not a good sign, the cpu could be fucked. Try to plug speakers/headphones to the sound jacks on the board (try them all) and see if you hear an error message. I had an asus board some years ago that did that, a female voice repeated the error over and over.

Also try to look in the troubleshooting part of the motherboard manual, there's some hints there that can help you figure out what's wrong with it, like the small led on the mobo can red or green etc.

Why not just bring it to your local computer store and have them look at it? Might cost you 50-80$ but it'll save you a shit load of time.

Did you hook up the pci-e power cable from the psu to the vid card?
Does the fan on the card come on at boot?

aren't there two video cards then? one on-board and the GForce?

either plug your monitor's cable to the other one on the back of your PC or take the GForce out and try again, if it works then put it back in and you have to go to your bios settings and change them to use the gforce and not the on-board one
