What do you think of upsells?
What do you think of upsells?
By this Imean sites that promote other sites inside them to make more cash. In other words you (the affiliate) may send a site 100 sales. Out of that mabe 20 or so join the other upgrade site. Thus the site owner wins again but the afiliate does not. To me I do not like it, as I think not only it unfaire but makes the members area looks naff. I have seen inside a few members areas of well known sites (some are regular on this forum), and it looks naff. just to point out I never will have upsells in my members area. Do you think website owners say if they do have upsells in the members area or not. Also if you do have a website that relies on affiliates do you dare say (in this thread) if you have any upsells at all.

I get annoyed when revshare programs use excessive members area upsells... As for PPS though, those upsells are factored in when your payout is calculated, so it's not a big deal to me

Depends on who you're asking and what kind of upsells(product vs membership, same program vs other program, etc). membership upsells... it's fine for PPS affiliates, tends to suck for revshare affiliates, and program owners are making more money either way (debatable). Now if a revshare program is upselling their own sites and the affiliate gets paid on those, that's great. Not sure who does that though. Lightspeed maybe?

A lot of sites must lose a lot of members because of they're insane amount of upsells.
On the other hand, there's no harm in having a subtle fleshlight ad under some porn or a dating service link. If you're getting $25-30 pps, you can't really complain about not getting paid for potential upsales. That's more ridiculous than the fact that people think pay sites are worth $30/month.

an affiliate promoting a paysite is extra revenue for that site owner....an affiliate should be happy to make that money at all
what the site owner does after they become a member is their own business to many affiliates bitch about too much shit and want too much in return ever promoted a mainstream sponsor? heh.... |

I have one sponsor I promote that has 4 or 5 upsales at the top of their members area. I dont see a dime from that. But I have not seen bad rebills because of it.

Well, upsells are certainly better than shaving, many programs couldn't compete without them, but I certainly prefer upsells I get money for as well.
The Teen Revenue (Little Lupe, Texas Twins, etc.) guys are a good example. You can upgrade a membership to access all sites and affiliates get paid for the upgrade. What I'm more worried about are excessive X-Sales, since they are often pre-checked on signup forms, hidden at the bottom and piss off surfers alot when they see a 90$ bill instead of the expected 30$. They never again pay for porn. |

I"ve made a thread similar to this on another board, 99% of the paysite owners took it upon themselves to bash me as best they could, personally, business-ly, and in everyway they could, and even tried to insult me.
I'll repeat what i said before, the affiliate does deserve a small % of the upsell but i know there is no way to track it, and probably never will be, but my honest opinion is the affilate does deserve something from those upsell(s) |

I hate the revshare only sponsors who upsell like hell. I generally only push PPS sponsors bc of this reason. The rebills go somewhere else and I don't get credit for it.

Professional sponsors know that they need to pay affiliates as much as possible to keep the traffic coming. Professional affiliates send traffic to the places returning the biggest checks. Sponsors who skim the money lose out.
Many sites upsell to each other. Site A upsells to site B, C and D. B, C and D are upselling to site A who has more traffic to send back. Site A makes more money on the same traffic. This money he ploughs back into his site with more and better content, increasing conversions and retention, or/and he increases the rev share pay outs. You could do that with your sites, find 3-5 other similar sites and upsell to each other. Increase your content and get more members. This lesson in business was free. ![]() |

Do YOU return a % of your income to the sites that send you your traffic? If you submit a free site to Greenguy or a gallery to The Hun, do you kick them back a % for the traffic that enabled you to get the sale? If you're getting paid per signup, that % of the upsell is already factored in. Exit consoles are factored in (why do you think the payouts are higher with more exit consoles?). Everything has already been factored in when the payout amount is determined. This is why you're being paid upfront in one lump sum.

regardless, affiliate make a sale, period, they don't own part of the company, they aren't stock holders, they are there to send people to paysites and sell the surfer into joining that paysite...period...that is IT...what the site owner does after the surfer joins is the paysite owners busiess, if the affiliate doesn't like it, send traffic elsewhere |
