Computer geek help please - copy data off drive? access denied!

trying to help PC friend grab all his files off his old hard drive onto my PC and then burn to CD for him, and it all works except when I try and open:

f:\documents and settings\Luis\desktop

I just get "access denied"

how do I get permission to open it on my PC? I just have his old puters harddrive stuck in an external enclosure.

are you logged in as administrator? Maybe the file/folder there has permission set for only the admin being able to copy/move/delete stuff in there. There's also a way to change the ownership properties for that folder. You can also try doing it in safe mode.

no, u don't understand, I took his harddrive outof his old broken PC, and put in an enclosure and connected it via firewire to my PC. I'm logged in as admin on my PC.. like on a mac if you hit a folder like this you can just override it with that persons login or whatever... this sucks.

You need to take ownership of the files: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308421

^ that should work
