PLZZZ Help me with my StickShift Question

hey car peops, please help me:

I have noticed that when i shift gears, from 1st to 2nd, its not smooth anymore. Its like it is grinding something. This doesnt happen all the time but a good majority of times. Is this normal and maybe i never noticed it before???

Any input would be greatly appreciated. The car dealership i purchased it from in Manhattan are the biggest jerkoffs and are not that helpful...

before i schedule an appointment was curious....

Thanks!

Could be a few things

1. Clutch going out
2. Need clutch cable adjustment
3. Syncros going out.

Few other less likely options, but Id say 1 of those 3.

clutch is brand new. Just had some warranty work done on it. New Valve gaskets and since they had the engine out they also gave me a brand new clutch for free, I only had to pay for the part. Car has 68K miles so i decided to replace the clutch. I only have about 400 miles at most on the new clutch.

i am guessing it is the syncro as well. I will just bring it into the dealer next week...

is it possible for only 1 syncro to go bad? Cuz it is only 1st to 2nd gear...all other shifts r smooth....?

sounds to me like a syncro is out, and yes its possible for one syncro to go back.

You can avoid the grinding by matching up the revs with the speed for second gear

Damn, everyone has a presence on GFY. ;) Hit me up on ICQ, 1183251. I need a part for my 2001 Impala and nobody around here has what I need.

ok
say you shift at 3000rpm and this is 30kph.
30kph is 2000rpm in 2nd gear (it isn't on your car, this is just example

You shift out of first into neutral, and shift into 2nd gear when the rpms drop to 2000. You don't even need to use the clutch, the gear will pop right in.

Some people call that flat shifting. I was quite good at it back when I raced my Mustang.

I had to do it on my skyline, 2nd gear syncro was so shot you couldn't even pop the car into that gear...
