Any Aussie having trouble accessing sites?

Seems a lot of sites are simply timing out tonight. I'm only getting around 50% of sites in the U.S, the U.K and Europe to work.
Did someone trip over the internet plug somewhere?

I'm on Bigpond adsl at the moment and read this on the Whirlpool forums:

There is currently a routing issue affecting all Telstra clients (Bigpond and other downstream clients). It appears that Telstra have lost their primary international links. Normally their routes to US sites go via the Pacific, but this is currently routing via Perth and dying at a network in Hong Kong.

Something's going on that's for sure. Seems almost everyone is having problems with sites loading. I can even access wordpress.org at the moment. This is really starting to give me the shits as I can't access some of my sites hosted o/s. Can't even access them by ftp.

Apparently (from what I've been reading) the culprit is the 'NS core router to alter.net' so if your isp routes you through them you'll experience problems. Mind you, I'm no techie and it all means nothing to me. All I know is that half the stuff I need to access, I can't.

Still having problems here...can only access around 50% of International sites. I can't even get Wordpress and Wikipedia to load. It's been 24 hours now so it's really giving me (and tons of others) the shits.

You may be an indirect customer further up the line, they're a major supplier of bw to many ISPs. They used to be the ONLY commercial supplier several years ago.

This has been going on for 31 hours now. Bigpond are acknowledging the problem but can't give an estimate of when it'll be fixed. Apparently from what I've been reading, it's affecting many more Isp's as well.

No problems at the moment (thank goodness), seems it's all be sorted. All was working properly as of Sunday morning when I turned my computer on, though apparently the East Coast had things working a few hours ahead of the rest of the country.
