Lake Gaston Sunrise -- aka "My Morning"

Those of you who know me know that I moved to Lake Gaston earlier this year to relax a bit more than I could in Connecticut. Some days, nature chooses to remind me why I moved.

I was about to go to bed. Instead of doing that, I crept out of the door, camera in hand, to the shore of the lake. Looking through the trees at the edge of my property, I saw this ...

So, being a sucker for gorgeous sun-rises on the water, I climbed to the top of my boat house to take in the view. Here's what I saw ...

It's difficult for words to describe how calm the scene was, but I'll try. First of all, imagine the wet "fresh" feeling the day after a nice pouring rain. I'm standing on the slightly slick wood of the boat house, smelling the fresh morning air. The entire world feels like it's on "pause." Although there are never car noises or anything from the "real world" here, nature can sometimes be a bit noisy. Because the sun was just STARTING to rise, most of the critters hadn't yet gotten the memo, and were silent. Very few birds, no squirrels or anything of that nature.

The LAKE, however, was as alive as could be. Fish were jumping out of the water like a fireworks show. If you'd been crass enough to ruin the moment by casting a fishing line into the water, it would have been impossible to come up empty.

The sun was still amazing, too ...

Out on the dock itself, I have a pair of chairs. Great for having a beer at the end of the day, but it seemed like a great picture, so I'll close with that ...

Unreal. That move you made had to be one of the healthier mental things you've done.

For sure. We'll load up some nice steaks on the grill. I did burgers and asparagus the other night:

Got all my toys out there, had a block of fresh cheddar which I sliced off some thin pieces to top the burgers, sauteed some mushrooms and garlic, did it up right. Here's the close-up of the actually grilling action:

Thanks! I've lived in a lot of different areas, and the lake BY FAR gives me the most pleasure with what I can see on a day to day basis.

Hehe. Good times out at the boathouse at night. We get some pretty rowdy parties going here -- only when there was a live band last year (I hadn't moved here yet) did anyone ever complain. It's very "live and let live" here.

Yeah, I finally broke down and moved in February. My father bought a place two houses down, and made some amazing renovations on it. I always thought "a lake house? aren't they just cabins?" ... I had no idea they were actual houses, just sitting next to a lake.

You're welcome. Those are the kinds of pics it'd be selfish NOT to share.

Yeah, the sporting is great around here, too. The lake itself has 350 miles of coastline, so there's a lot of room to tool around in the boat, jetski, etc. Great fishing here, too. They have a lot of tournaments.

Here's the view during the "day" ...

You aren't kidding! Stuff used to piss me off, now I just look out at the lake (my desk is right next to two full sliding glass doors in our living room) and relax.

I slept until 5pm, I was so exhausted. I got DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) and an Eye Toy a couple of days ago. I've been playing them for a couple of hours a day, it's a really good sweat-generator.

You'd better! I'm surprised you haven't YET! Z is coming up at the end of the month, Chio might stop by, and then a few others are trickling in slowly but surely over the rest of the year. Hopefully TurboFace and TurboAngel will make the trip, too.

I think my yearly alcohol budget just tripled.

Haha, for sure. I had no idea how much fun it was. I thought the Eye Toy would be horrible, but I'm actually playing with it more than the Wii.

No doubt about it. As strange as it sounds, I'm *MORE* productive here than I was in Connecticut.
